What should I try? (looking to avoid finasteride/minoxdil)

If you are willing to consider finasteride in one year, then why wait at all? It's proven to work, almost nothing else is. It seems like a silly waste of time (and hair), to me.

I'm not bothered enough by my hair loss at the moment that I'd want to risk it.

......says the guy who plans to wear a wig.

Nope...it's just an option for me. I am not declining anything for options.

If you are looking to avoid life-changing side effects then forget about finasteride....

But do make sure you get on the minoxidil, it has no where near as many sides as finasteride. The only problems I encountered so far was chest pain and rapid heartbeat, when I put too much on. If you stick to the recommended dose and keep 10hrs between each application you will be absolutely fine!

Most people who complain about minoxidil on this forum would probably be fine, if they didn't get so greedy with their doses, applying more than 1ml each time and also starting minoxidil on silly 15% solutions which cause massive shedding and irritation if your hair has not been introduced gradually to 5% minoxidil for at least a year.

Other topicals like spironolactone and Tricomin will help to halt the hair loss and assist the growth process for a time, but minoxidil will do the overwhelming majority of the work in terms of regrowth, so you're going to need it or else the best you can hope for is a marginal slow-down in the rate of hairloss.
