Hello All:)

I would like to ask, what tape do you recommend for hairline?
Going from the thinnest...moving from the most unnoticed to the visible.
Walker lace front thin 3 mil - is there an alternative to this?
glue excluded.
-French lace base

Thank you.

Walker Easy Green is similar to that tape but thinner.
You’re confusing the lace front 3mil and the lace front… regular I guess you would call it? The 3mil as the name implies is only 3mil while the lace front is 8.5 I believe. The easy green, which I’ve never used is 7.5. I might try the green soon but I’ve been very satisfied with the lace front support (8.5 version) with my hairline. The 3mil is undetectable, however I can’t get it to cooperate with me. It’s usability is horrible!

Exactly, 3 mil tape is the absolute thinnest available. It's essentially glue, as there is no plastic substrate.

3 mil is great tape. The problem is you cannot cut it to follow the hairline perfectly
...so it will either stick out past the hairline or not out enough, leaving the edge unattached.

The best option, in my opinion, is to use a poly unit with a glued hairline. Alternatively, you could use a lace system with a poly hairline and achieve the same.

Applying the adhesive to the hairline/base, brushing forward...off of the edge.... will ensure a perfect and seamless transition. Unless you apply it too thick, then you risk it oozing out while pressing down.

This is yet another reason why Poly is superior to full lace.

You cannot apply glue to lace and you will never apply it to your skin following the hairline seamlessly. It will always be overshot or undershot in places.

FYI I have no problems in cutting the 3mil tape. I apply it to lace, and with backing paper on, I cut it following the hairline contour with sharp, clean scissors

I can't get much more than 7 days either..
You must be trimming some of the hairline each time you do it. Over the course of 3 or 4 months(16-17 times) that's a significant amount you're removing.

Also, that would mean the width of your hair system at the hairline is only 3" across?..... That sounds awfully small.... like a reverse mohawk, and that's the only size 3 mil contour comes in.

Let me try to explain with pictures...
Tape comes in various contours shape, i use A and C. I apply the noshine first , leaving 1/4 inch of lace at hairline. Then I apply the 3mil over the noshine ( backing paper removed on the noshine !) overlapping the 3 mil over noshine and extending over hairline.

Then I cut the excess 3mil tape using lace hairline as guideline. So no i dont cut lace everytime i attach/detach. But it does shrink hairline over a 3 month period as I do trim the fuzz or loose lace out of the base one in a while. I say i loose about 1/4 inch at hairline over life of piece.
Hope it is clearer with these pics and explanations

I completely understood what you were doing. You prefer the word trim to the word cut. The end result is the same, removal of the base/hair. A quarter inch removed from the hairline over its lifespan is a significant amount . A graduated hairline is barely a quarter inch in depth.

Again, to each his own, do what works well for you, but I don't see how that's a benefit..... Attempting to join multiple contours onto a system with a dissimilar shape, rather than using glue, which has no option other than to follow the hairline accurately.... without "trimming" or removing any of the system.

As you say, to each his own...
I also use glue at times, I use this tape method when i want a perfect hairline. Glue involves precision which I sometimes don't have time for.

I repeat " i don't cut lace everytime i attach/detach" when cutting the tape. In fact I leave a bit of the 3mil tape extend past lace when cutting. I do trimming when needed (frayed lace)

I completely understand. My opinion is, leaving glue/3mil pass the hairline to attract dirt and to shine, isn't the best way.

A quarter inch is over 2/3 the width of an average male finger If a hairline is off, height, by 1 to 2 mm it's noticable.

As I had mentioned previously, the best way to get a seamless hairline is to apply liquid adhesive... brushing foward and off of the hairline. With a lace front, I understand you don't have that option.

I don't say these things to argue or put down. My ultimate goal is to help people get the best look they can :)
