Yo guys! Been on Finasteride for 5,5 months now and I think im shedding less hair now but considering switching to Dutasteride 0,5mg ED instead, since I havent’t really gotten any sides that bother me at all. Is that a good idea? Mostly I want to do this so that I can regrow some of my receded hairline.

These pics show my hair just before I started:

And this is 5,5 months after:

My only regret is I didn’t start when I was 18. Left it 5,5 years late :(

Is there any positive result?

What you need is patience! I am 2 years already on Finasterid.

I noticed only after one year a very good improvement of the hair. After 2 years it became even better.

You must not forget something: The hair loss went with you over years, it can take also years until your hair becomes better.

Take Finasterid for at least 1 year and then take new pictures.

Yeah I see your point. I just don’t want to make the same mistake twice - waiting too long to start treatment and dutasteride seems Superior especially at hairline! Did you get any regrowth at hairline?

So no dutasteride yet? I’m just thinking I waited a long time to get on finasteride. Don’t wanna make the same mistake with dutasteride...
Na dude. finasteride should be sufficient untill you give it a year to see. Duta is much heavier anti androgen.

Finasteride inhibits about 70 % of DHT. Dutasteride inhibits closer to 98 %

Yeah that’s quite the difference, 40% stronger than finasteride. But I mean if we are already taking away 70% Of DHT does it not mean that it’s pretty worthless hormone in the developed male and hence taking away another 28% basically leaving you with no DHT is okay?

As far as I've understood it, DHT is mainly important during the pubescent phase for men, but once they reach adulthood it has relatively little use. The only function it has as far as I know is in the prostate gland. About that, it should be noted that apparently both dutasteride and finasteride inhibit about the same amount of DHT there, around 85 %. Furthermore, several studies have shown that too much DHT causes an elevevated risk of developing prostate cancer, and that using inhibitors lowers that risk by as much as 30 % (dutasteride was also developed for treating enlarged prostate in men).

So overall, the scientific consensus is that as long as you start medicating after finishing puberty, you shouldn't have any real issues

Your hair doesn't look too bad.. If you were on finasteride for over a month and didn't get any side effects I think its safe to assume you wouldn't have got them had you continued. Most people who get sides on finasteride get them fairly quickly ( within 2 weeks. )[/QU

My sides started couple of months into finasteride and rollercoaster of changes...from shooting like a p**rn star to lil sperm to almost regular load to sex drive changes to two phases of shedding to fatigue why i take it at night and it wreak havoc on my hair. I am thinning diffussing bad on it but before i was fine and im only 10 months into finasteride...

To the OP: I highly recommend alternative approaches and topicals than finasteride but if you must, try lower dosage of finasteride

Thanks for detailed response! I mean the big difference I read about finasteride and dutasteride is that finasteride only inhibits type 2 (and 3) whereas dutasteride inhibits type 2 better and also inhibits type 1. Now seeing as those Dominican guys that were studied only had a 5 alpha reductase type 2 deficiency and never went bald it’s reasonable to assume that type 1 inhibition doesnt really make a difference for hair loss (might improve acne though if you struggle with that). So I think the only reason dutasteride works better is because it’s more potent in its inhibition of 5 alpha reductase type 2. Problem is if we want more of that we also need to inhibit loads of type 1 which I read is present in significant amounts in the brain...

How I see it now is that I gotta stop being hair greedy and just give this 1-2 years and then after that I will take dutasteride if my results have been unsatisfactory. For me it’s temple regrowth which makes me all eager to go for dutasteride as I’ve seen some crazy recoveries!

Hey man, right now I feel quite comfortable with taking finasteride and I was even considering starting taking dutasteride... I usually take my pill before going to bed at 1 am roughly.

Just FYI, only about 2 % of people experience side effects from finasteride/dutasteride, and practically all of those sides disappear once you stop taking the medicine.

Many experience some side effects during the first weeks to a month, but that usually balances out after a time. If you do experience sides, a good method is lowering the dose for the first few weeks and then slowly increasing the dose to normal

Just thought I’d post a 25 week update, and then take it at 25 week intervals really to showcase progress hopefully. I really want to switch to Dutasteride but the studies about increased insuline resistance and fatty liver disease are holding me back. Also the gyno thing... I don’t mind a lower libido at all. On Finasteride I’ve had no sides as of yet or PERHAPS slightly more watery ejaculate but that’s pretty much it.

I have attached pics below.

P.S. - Forgive me about the nails! Will trim them now haha!

Hairs looking good...thick. I think in another 6 month you'll see some good results. I wouldn't take duta as your not that bad. I'd say finasteride ateride is working just fine for you . Now live your life buddy. Good luck.

Hey bro thanks for encouragement! Saw your profile btw and pics of hair. You’re not suffering from male pattern baldness so why are you on gourmetstylewellness.com?

I understand what you mean since I’ve also been diagnosed with BDD. It has had a terrible effect on my life but I’m working with it - considering SSRIs. I wouldn’t worry about your hair though but I know it’s easier said than done if you have BDD.

Hey again! I emailed Dr. Bernstein and also posted a question about whether I should take dutasteride and these are the responses I got. What do you guys think? I mean are they really unbiased being hair transplant docs whose livelihood comes from doing transplants? The only Doctor who was kinda open to the idea was Dr. Donovan and surprise surprise he’s the only one who’s not a hair transplant Doctor but a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss (albeit no surgeries).

Like I told you....your good man. You don't need to add anything. Just continue and you'll keep your hair for a long time hopefully. Try and relax bro.
