Are there any vitamins, shampoos, and such that helps in hair maintenance/regrowth while i wait for my appointment with the doctor? i'd rather be proactive now instead of just waiting.

get on nizoral now, you can buy the 1% at any drug store. get your scalp in a nice healthy condition for the treatments to come to work. Another proactive thing you can do is to take pictures RIGHT now, before you start treatment, so you can compare. Sometimes, believe it or not, you forget what you actually looked like eight months ago from the start of treatment.

Nizoral Shampoo

T/Gel Shampoo

T/Sal Shampoo

Is T/G&S medicated shampoos or can they be rotated with nizoral? I'm on the nizoral wagon, but would like a good "hairloss" shampoo - non medicated - to rotate with.

From what I've heard the T's does quite the same as nizoral, right?

I assume you're only using a doctor so u can get a prescription for Propecia and have someone monitoring you on it? Otherwise I don't see much need to wait for a doctor to begin treating your hair loss. They're likely to know less on the topic than the least informed person here. Assuming you're using the medical system here in the USA.

T/Sal + Nizoral (Ketoconazole)

Quote from Dr Lee website: Ketoconazole has been proven to decrease the quantities of DHT in the scalp by helping to inhibit its synthesis from sterols.  Salicylic acid has a keratolytic and a slight antiseptic action when applied topically to the skin.  By removing some of the dead epidermal layers of the stratum corneum, there is an enhanced action by the ketoconazole in suppressing the production of DHT in the scalp.

and aslo.....

quote from Nutrogenas own website: Ketoconazole has rapidly become the treatment of choice for scalp conditions such as Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis , among many Dermatologists and other medical professionals. However, while patients with Hyperkeratotic scalp conditions are often encouraged to wash their hair daily, Ketaconzole is indicated for use only twice a week.

T/Sal Maximum Strength Shampoo contains 3% Salicylic Acid, primes the scalp for effective keratolitic therapy. As a first line treatment it reduces crusty scalp build – up with maximum Keratolitic Activity. So it is an ideal pretreatment for Ketoconazole and Co - therapy (Alternative days) with Tar Shampoos. Because it is fragrance free, colorant free and preservatives –free Shampoo, patients with sensitive scalps can drive the therapeutic benefits of Salicylic Acid without risk of irritation due to undesirable additives.

T/Sal Maximum Strength Shampoo is cosmetically elegant, with the conditioning shampoo base, which overcome the dryness and irritation that could accompany higher concentrations of Salicylic Acid. The result is effective therapy without having to sacrifice soft, manageable hair.

How to Use:

Massage into wet scalp, leave on several minutes, rinse thoroughly and repeat.

there are a LOT of people on this site that had regrowth in the front with rogaine, and even propecia (like me). there are some online sites that sell generic propecia (usually from INdia I think) i think that's what ty was referring too. but if you want the actual labeled "propecia" yes, you do need a prescription, as far as i know.

Where else have you read this?

If the FDA trials are conducted on one part of the scalp, the product can only be promoted as working for that part of the scalp, this does not mean it will not work elsewhere.

http://www.qhi.co.uk sell propecia perfectly legally without the need for a prescription, there are many other sites.

a few more silly ole questions...

1.)
ok...so i went to the store and found the shampoos discussed (nizoral, TSal, TGel) and they are all dandruff shampoos. I did not read anything about hair loss prevention. Am i missing something? Sorry if i am being nitpicky..but i want to be cautious before forking over $30..

2.) someone mentioned that i do not need a prescription to get on propecia...is this recommended? if so i where do i begin?
