What Type Of Balding Is This? Diffuse Thinning/male pattern baldness?

Is this male pattern baldness or diffuse thinning? I’ve had a very small bald spot since 17 or so which slowly spread with slow temple recession. In early-mid 20s now and I feel like the thinning is just spread out. Is there a difference from balding from genetics and stress? What could be the possible causes of this type of balding and what is it?

I’ve been on minoxidil and dermarolling once a week for 38 days now. there has been some regrowth and new hairs popping up but as you can see, there’s still an overall slightly thinner appearance on top and a lot thinner/balder towards the crown.

This is diffuse thinning. It is 100% genetic male pattern baldness related. Your current treatment is not enough to maintain regrowth long term and you will probably be bald before 30.

I’m sure it may be part/mostly genetic but I wonder if stress played a factor. What type of regimen would you recommend to get my hair back?

Should I give up and shave it now or should I keep fighting, get rich eventually and try to Elon Musk my hairline back into existence? I need feedback ASAP. I just buzzed my head with a #1 but looking at my actual hairline/crown has me feeling pretty pessimistic at this point. Not to mention feedback i’ve gotten here and other places

In the New Research section there is a thread of microneedling and dermarolling plus minoxidil. You'll see a couple of miraculous success stories in that thread with a regime similar to yours. Because of that thread, people are actually starting to get on dermarolling (more specifically, dermapening) hoping to duplicate those success cases. Given this, I think that you have a chance of some regrowth and maintenance with your current regime. However, to maximize your chances of success, I'd add finasteride to your regime. If within some years, new studies reveal that microneedling is enough to regrow/maintain hair in the long term, then you can exclude finasteride, but til then, we just don't have any strong evidence to assess whether only microneedling+minoxidil is enough.
Up to you, buddy. I'd give your hair a chance, but if you look good with the shaved look then go for ir and forget about the hairloss nightmare

I have seen those dermarolling and minoxidil (specifically roller) success stories - those are what inspired me to start my own regimen. Some of the ones I've seen have had amazing results in as short as 3 month periods. I saw one on reddit that even claimed to happen over a 6 week period. I'm about halfway through the 3 month period (6 weeks) and the results are subpar at best. It's pretty early to tell though, so I'll keep at it for the minimum 3-6 months because that's how much minoxidil I already bought. I guess in the meantime I'll just keep my hair buzzed short until I think it's possible that it will look decent longer. Thanks for the response. I'll probably try to get on finasteride whenever my next routine Dr's visit is, within the next 6 months most likely.

No prob buddy. And of course 6 weeks is too early to tell. I even think 6 months is also too early, I consider the dude of the dermapen thread of reddit to be an extreme case (and hence a scarce one) of good response, so I wouldn't try to compare to him. Give dermarolling a try for at least a year. There are some anecdotes of regrowth on this forums in which there was regrowth but it was Very slowly, way over 6 months. Patience will be your friend.

Good luck with your regime, pal.

I’m thinking of doing a light dermaroll every day, minoxidil once a day, and avoiding finasteride unless it becomes necessary because I’m afraid of sides. What do you think?

I'd dermaroller only once a week, and be sure to get one with 1.5m needles. It's better to stick to the regimens presented in the studies and performed by the people who has had success here in this forum. You could try it that way for a year and evaluate if it's doing something. I'd even suggest a dermapen because apparently it's easier and safer to use compared to a roller. And yeah, tñif you are so scared of sides, throw in finasteride only if you see that dermarolling and minoxidil are losing the battle in the long run.
