First sorry about the same subject I've been posting on this site but I need your advice. I've had this constant itch/tingling sensation all over my scalp although mostly on my crown. I've been on treatments for 7-8 months used all the shampoos nizoral , tgal, tsal with no relief whatsoever. I obviously need to make a change and come off something the problem is I don't know whether it's the finasteride or mino. I'm hopeful it's the min and kinda wanna come off that first and see if my scalp improves. For example when I wake up in the morning I notice I have white residue flakes located on parts of my scalp which itch so I'm optimistic it's the mino messing up my scalp. I've been telling myself ride out all the treatments for a year and go from their but something has to change , what do you gives think. Btw I've switch to Rogaine foam two days ago since it doesn't have the ppg still have the itch but if my scalp was really affected by mino I'm assuming even the switch of brand will take time to heal my scalp from the previous Kirkland foam mino... Anyways thoughts?

Most people report this feeling from finasteride. I had it BAD about 2-3 months in and it continued for the duration (11 months). Luckily, I had already been on minoxidil 5% foam for like 3-4 years, so I knew right away it couldn't be that. When I dropped finasteride and replaced it with RU, the feeling almost went down to nill. Now it is coming back, and it's the most dreadful feeling in the f*cking universe. It just reminds me of constant hair loss. Who knows exactly what's happening, right? I know for fact that this feeling is caused by inflammation, because I have had the exact feeling throughout other areas of my body after surgery or injury. It feels tingly, like bubbles under the skin and then there's the feeling of an ant crawling from one point to another damn point.

I would try dropping minoxidil for just a few days first. If the feeling continues solely on finasteride, then drop finasteride for a few days. These feelings are correlated with too much activity within the tissue, and increased blood trying to push through already restricted, tiny capillaries. My guess, in my personal case at least, is that the tissue is being damaged by over activity of androgens in one way or another to compensate for the lack of androgens that finasteride causes.

oh, and if you need immediate relief - ice pack feels great. Once you sort out which one is the culprit, you may also want to consider compounded minoxidil cream with hydrocortisone. that seems to help me.

and the ultimate question - you've been on for 7-8 months? are you still losing a lot of hair?

Hey buckthorn ya I've read your posts regarding the itch so you can relate it's terrible it does remain me constantly about my hair loss and at times it puts me in aggressive moods.. I've been on finasteride for 7.5 months and mino for about 8.5 months ... Starting tomorrow I think I will discontinue mino for at least a week and see were that takes me ... I just really hope it's not the finasteride without it I'll surely be a bald bastard

Btw how long after discontinue use of mino will prompt a shed ... I can't imagine my hair getting any worse it's been at baseline since the begin of treatment pretty much , my hairline has gotten weaker as well

What would I do? I would shave my head, join a gym and get big.

- you were on minoxidil BEFORE finasteride? Did you get those sensations then?

- You have to be off of minoxidil for a at least a few weeks I would guess for those hairs to start transitioning back into telogen. Once again, no one really knows this. But yes, prolonged discontinuation of minoxidil will result in you losing those "minoxidil hairs"

- My guess is that it is the finasteride. Once again, this is an educated guess, based on ANECDOTAL evidence from many, many other posters on these forums. I have never read of minoxidil causing this kind of scalp reaction. It could perhaps, if you were allergic to PG, but you said it had no PG. Plus, these symptoms would have appeared shortly after initial use.

- Are you below baseline right now? Are you losing a LOT of hair? You don't really know if finasteride is going to be saving your hair, or if you're a none responder.

- It's a toss up man and a hard decision to make.

Yes ive been on mino for about a month prior to using finasteride i have never experience a scalp itch nor dandruff prior to treatments. My itch and dandruff began around december i remember starting to use the kirkland liquid in the morning around that time which caused the serious dandruff but the severity of my dandruff discontinued after switching back to foam morning and night but since then the itch stayed and although the dandruff isnt really noticeable it is def there because when i scratch my scalp i see tons on flakes falling. I would say im below baseline but then again it is hard to tell since my hair has been extremely thin and diffuse since the beginning of treatment. as for shedding i believe it has been pretty constant throughout treatment although this is hard to tell as well since i always keep my hair at a buzz cut. this is a very tough decision i just wish i knew with certainty whats causing this itch

Perhaps you should get on a scalp cream or something like that to heal your scalp and then get the minoxidil that is most soft to the scalp and most suitable for sensitive skin.

I had the same itch bad.

I got on finasteride + regenpure DR and its pretty much completely gone
Did you discontinue the use of mino?

What should I expect from discontinuing mino I've been on it for About 8.5 months with no regrowth if it really was the mino then all it did was literally burn and irritate my scalp for about 4 months straight ... Will I lose much hairs although it didn't regrow ****
