What would you rather have? (type of balding)

Would you rather have a receding hairline or thinning in the crown?

I am thinning on the top just in the crown area, and I think it looks so ridiculous. Especially when my hair grows out for a few weeks, it is dark and thick and then on the very top you can see my scalp peeking through. I just feel ridiculous.

At least with a receding hairline it's sort of... I don't know it just seems more natural to the eye or something I can't explain it. But with what I have it's just hits you like BAM. It's just a spot in the middle of no where.

But what about you guys? Would you rather have what I have in the thinning crown or a receding front?

I'd rather have crown thinning, although I'm a bit biased
Plus having a hoss hairline means i can put by hair back and have it look great. (I have longish hair)

Just crown thinning is the best. Diffuse is the worst and hairline is in between in the 2. I have diffuse and a receding hairline...

I might have to say crown b/c it responds best to treatment and you can't see it in the mirror.

Definitely crown, because you can conceal it with concealers.. you can't really do that with the hairline.

Crown thinning, because:

1. Easier to treat

2. Easier to conceal

3. Less aesthetically displeasing overall

Crown as long as I get to keep the frontal hairline. It looks cool on Zidane.

Crown, easier to fix from the success stories I've seen.

Honestly the best "balding" would be a slow receding hairline where you maintain all your density and never develop a bald spot, but only if you have awesome really thick straight hair.

i have ALL of the types. ALL at once. and in my experience...i have ALL the experience...i'd say diffuse is the worst one for sure. if i HAD to keep just ONE that i have, i'd say receding i'll keep. i can't stand the crown thing...and i can't stand the diffuse hair. the receding hairline looks most presentable to me. in fact, when i see guys with the receding hairline, i don't think...it's the bald guy...i don't even notice much at ALL...when they're diffuse or have the crown disappearing...i notice right away and think...i'm with you, brother.

Crown 100%

its easier too get it back. treatments say it works better on the crown then hairline at front.

And when your hairline at front goes it really does and since u face people daily in front of you its the 1st thing they see.

nah man.. I've got a thin crown with what you guys would maybe call a NW0 hairline, and I would take slow receding hairline with thickness any day.. cos it just looks plain ridiculous with a bold spot on your head no matter what hairline you've got.

And some here say crown thinning is easy to fix with treatments, not true.. not for me anyways..

Agree completely ...as I've said before on here if I had Jude Laws thick but receded look I wouldn't even be posting on this site. Nobody cares about recession, that's just "mature" instead of "balding" to most people.

Once male pattern baldness becomes sufficiently advanced we get to have all three!

If I had to pick, I would say that crown thinning is by far the best to have early on. My brother who is 28 has mild crown thinning but still a thick hairline. I'm 23 and receding, but his hair overall looks much better than mine.

However, I can style my hair in a way where my recession isn't visible, but he can't hide his crown, so he gets called out for being a "baldie" by his friends (even though his frontal hair is great).

To the uninformed eye, a balding crown screams "YOU'RE GOING BALD" a lot more than a receding hairline. Most people don't even perceptively pick up on recession. But still - I'd pick jokes at my expense but with a strong hairline/frame for my face over crappy looking hair but nobody thinking I'm balding.

But like I said, it's all a moot point once a person advances to NW3/4. Then you have a receding hairline, a big bald spot, and are diffusing all over. And then you end up with a horseshoe - ole!

Topical treatments are easier with receding hairline. You can put your minoxidil on a few minutes before bed with no problem.

But in my opinion crown looks better when you have a buzzed head. Like the pic of Zidane earlier.

But maybe it looks better to have NW3A and short hair then NW3 and short hair.
