OK interesting Q. Suppose your DHT asked you (It would be very kind if it did :woot: ) where you would want loss; The crown or the hairline receding, which one would you chose? I personally would have the hairline as a bald spot in the middle of your head doesn't look nice. Also in regards to how much the hairline receds, lets say between NW3 - NW4. Also in my opinion hairline is easier to hide with longer hair. Look at Roger Federer, he doesn't have a good hairline (HAsn't got male pattern baldness but a sh*t hairline from the start) and his hair looks good grown out.

Hairline loss is pretty common, that's what makes many so jealous of people with crown loss, but they don't have it better

Something I have noticed, is that you can have Alton Brown's hairline and the majority of people do not consider it baldness, you are "balding" at worst. The other side is different, keep a perfect hairline with aggressive crown loss and you can't stop all the comments about your baldness

If I had a gun to my head and had to choose Id say crown. Most treatments work better on the crown. Hairline seems much harder to restore once its gone. Also losing your hairline makes your face look different, it makes you look older. Many people dont even notice a thinning crown if youre looking directly at a person unless the person bends down or you see them from behind or something.

To the people who say hairline because you can just cover it up with long hair...thats bullshit... long hair on a person with a receded hairline usually looks terrible and is noticeable....it looks desperate a lot of times. I'm sure there are guys who can do it well, but most guys i know that try to grow their hair to cover a hairline just end up looking desperate.

The thing that sucks about hair loss is that hair frames your face. If you lose your hair line you lose some of that framing. I think crown thinning does less damage to your appearance and is easier to cover up.

The crown without a doubt. You still have your hair at the front to frame the face, a lot easier if you decide to use concealers using the back of the head than either diffuse or attempting the frontal areas with dermatch.

Saying that, I'm a NW3 and my friend is a NW1.5 with a large balding crown, his spot is the size of a field hockey ball. He is the one that gets called 'baldy' more than me. I hang around with a tough crowd who all rip out of each other.

He's a cool guy and doesn't fret on his hair, even at his wedding - he stood up the friend joking to the rest of church by sticking his hand over his baldspot saying ''People from the cameras take pics from my good non bald side etc''

Have to choose the crown.

Although sometimes the receding hairline sometimes seems more manly in my opinion, I would be afraid of turning into the guy with an island at the front of my head.

Crown is easier to treat but as a young guy you'll be 'the one with the bald spot'. So right now I'd probably pick hairline loss.

If you have thick hair you can pass off a receding hairline.

Sadly I've got diffuse thinning + recession. Shaving my head is my only option to stay looking young :/

You can transplant into the crown and never have to worry about "island" effects nearly as much as the hairline.
