Hey guys, i've been absolutely clueless as to what kind of balding i'm experiencing and it's stressful as hell.
It seems to be definitely thinning on the sides of my head, just above my ears and becoming more dense further to the top. It really doesn't seem to be male pattern baldness related and i've been at lost so far determining what it is.

I have fairly long hair at the moment and it covers it up, but i've been wanting to cut it short for a while.
Anyone know of or are experiencing the same thing?

That's how mine started off, your temples eventually might start receding too along with all over diffuseness. It's an immune system sort of balding, find your trigger and find your cure.

I think i might have same problem. I also have minior receded my right temple over 10 years...but i think it's kind a normal for 28 year old.

@Brains Expel Hair: How do you mean immune system? What did u do to cure it? I would appriciate if you could describe please! :)

Oh ok, can i get a more elaborate explanation? I've recently (last 3 days) quit smoking, hopefully that was what was causing it for me.

Androgenic Alopecia normally leaves a nice pretty ring around the sides and back of your head. When you're dealing with an immune system related loss it doesn't really care where it takes hair from and so you end up with loss both up top and on the sides as well, sometimes in a patchy pattern and sometimes in a more diffuse sort of pattern (such as you appear to be exhibiting). There are a lot of immune cells up in your scalp and so it is really easy for an overactive immune response to end up damaging your pretty locks.

Mine happened to be related to gluten intake (celiac disease- an autoimmune condition), but there are a bunch of other sources of immune system malfunctions. The problem is most people don't really pay attention to the loss on the sides of the scalp and only start worrying once their temples recede and at that point they assume it's gotta be male pattern baldness.

It would be almost completely impossible for me to lock down the cause of whatever's causing your specific problems. Try keeping a journal that describes the following:
Any changes in your mental state throughout the day.
What you've eaten during the day.
Any sort of environmental changes that occur throughout the day.
Any hair related issues that occur throughout the day.
Any sort of other health issues that occur throughout the day.

No detail is too small to include, just write it all down and after a while see if any patterns emerge. Best of luck.

If you're losing it on top in the classic pattern (thin crown, temple recession) and the sides are thinning it's definitely a form of male pattern baldness. Some peoples sides thin, others stay perfect (temple points and all). If you're just losing it on the sides then there could definitely be something other than male pattern baldness going on.
