What's in the future you think?

Do you honestly think that it will come a "cure" within 10 years, that will give the nw5+ folks like me their hair back?

Or do you think maybe it will come something revolutionary within the hair system- or smp technology?

I really have no idea what the future holds for us. All I can say is when I first started balding over 15 years ago, I always took comfort in the fact that "By the time my hair gets really bad we will definitely have a better treatment/cure". As you all know I was very wrong.

If hair loss cures were a new form of social networking or telecommunications, it would've been cured 10 years ago. People outside the balding community just don't give a big enough sh!t. Do you think Merck or Pfizer would produce a drug that "cures" balding without it having to be taken on a daily basis? There's never going to be a panacea for hair loss. Drug companies make BILLIONS every single year just on hair loss solutions that barely make a dent in male pattern baldness. Why should they give a wh***'s left tit whether or not you're self-esteem is shot because you're balding/bald as long as you continue to line their pockets by refilling your Propecia scripts? Even a dumb businessman would know that wasting countless funds on research to "cure" a problem that has already been more or less cured to an extent good enough to make billions is a bad investment. Basically, don't hold your breath for a cure during our lifetimes.

Well the patent is over and there are now generics. Plus if you get proscar split into 8ths you can make it last half a year on 10 dollars... I would take the time to peruse Mercks financial statements and see if they show how profitable propecia still is but it isn't worth bother to me. But since you seem to have the facts handy perhaps you can post it.

My thoughts are this: the only cure would be to alter your DNA. Which is just about impossible and so I don't see how there can be a cure. The best imaginable option I can think of is to stop the hormone that causes it which we essentially already have. Propecia is the cure. Unfortunately once the hair follicle is gone the only way to grow that hair back is replace it. Unless you can some how magically revitalize a dead hair follicle. I would imagine that being as difficult as reawakening the dead, or finding a cure for cancer.

To me we already have the best cure we are looking for. It's finasteride.

And I will reiterate that the true best cure would be for society to be more accepting of bald people. Granted I see some bald guys and think it looks fine, don't think twice, and never would make fun. But then there are some that don't hold themselves highly and can tell they are bothered by their hair loss. These are the men I want to help change their self image. Including myself. I personally have accepted some day I will be bald. I just want to try and prolong it longer. Not because I think there is a cure coming. Although I still want to hear more about follicept....

It's so strange that so many people go bald or are balding and yet it's continually mocked. And despite all the adverts and all the people using rogaine and whatever else, there isn't more funding and research to help. Because finding a cure or even just a better treatment, it's not like a disease which you can wipe out, there will always be millions each year discovering they are balding and needing the cure/treatment so there will always be money.

Well it makes sense evolution didn't catch balding. Most men back in the day would have had their children long before they were bald and many even would have died before they showed significant signs. Not to mention they all use to wear elaborate wigs and hats.

Within 10 years I think male pattern baldness is a completely preventable condition and can be done pretty safely like CB or seti. Regrowing hair has always been a different ball game we all know that. There is no true cure that regrows Norwood 6 to Norwood 1 because it simply cant be done its far too complex and way too many pieces missing still. I think your looking at decades to put it nicely for a true Norwood 6 -> Norwood 1 cure maybe longer. I would take a guess like 10 years and multiply it because its never going to happen as fast as predicted.
