What's the best course of action for me to take right now? (20yo/with pics)

Hello everyone,

I really need someone's opinion on this matter. I'm a 20 year old from UK and the fact is I'm going bald. It's been happening since last year and has affected me pretty badly. I'm no expert at this but I suppose I'm a Norwood 2. My temples have receeded a lot but I still believe there is a good chance on reverting them back to normal? These are some things I have noticed:

1) Temples have noticeably receeded.

2) Hairline has also receeded but very slightly.

3) My hair is thinner, less dense, I can see the scalp through my hairs quite often.

4) The worst by far is washing it. Always have a massive hair loss during washing, leaves a very depressing sight in the bathroom.

5) Scalp itches a lot and has (what appears to be?) dandruff. Nizoral should fix this I hope?

I'm going to see my doctor today and I will ask him to prescribe me Proscar and 2% Nizoral. What I'm worried about is if I should add Minoxidil and "do the big 3" or will I see good results with just finasteride/nizoral alone. I wouldn't want to add minoxidil since I figure it would be a pain in the arse applying it everyday and then experiencing more shedding. Will finasteride & nizoral alone be good for me?

yes, I would not start minoxidil, especially if you are satisfied with maintaining.

finasteride + nizoral will be a good combo for maintaining, without the hassle of Minoxidil. You can always oomph it up if you feel like it is needed, but finasteride + nizoral will be good. (On a personal level, I maintained with finasteride + nizoral for 9 months, those two completely stopped my hair loss and made my scalp feel better, with very modest regrowth being apparent too. By adding minoxidil I was able to get a lot of regrowth [still now], but if you are happy with maintaining and hoping for modest regrowth depending on your luck/state of the follicles - the finasteride + nizoral -combo will be great).

You seem to be balding relatively slowly (my balding isn't even close to being the worst on this site and I went from Norwood 1 to Norwood 3V in 6-7 months), so you should be fine with the aforementioned combo, potentially even getting closer to Norwood 1 while on it. Good luck bro.

I just want to give an update on my situation. I took propecia for 2 days but stopped since I got immidiate side effects. The drug worked well for my hair but I was basically an impotent wreck for a week before finally coming back to normal. I thought I have been ruined because of Finasteride. If just one pill and a half has managed to cause me such severe erectile dysfunction and testicular pain then I think it's best not to take it anymore. I've read a certain post on this forum of user assuring others that side effects were uncommon, that it's 1 in a 100 yada yada well...apparently I am that 1 in a 100.

Anyway, in the end all I wish to say to the Propecia/Proscar users...good luck. I hope everything works out for you, if not, I wish you a fast recovery from this drug.

not possible, and how could you tell if the drug worked well for your hair if you only took it for two days? It's all in your head

No, two days is a fair assessment to start experiencing side effects.
Hopefully we'll actually have a cure in a couple years, but hey welcome to the land of baldnes.
