I know what your saying about self-esteem. and all that I'm not completely bogged down by hair-loss, but I want to put some effort into delaying it for a while. It's sort of like a list of priorities, with hair loss coming in at at around 5 in a score of 1-10. I personally want to look the best I can. I'm also taking medication for it aswell which I see no harm in doing, because I'm aware of the facts now. There is boligical studies done on guys with a lack of DHT, some people are born that way and are fine. Finasteride has been documented for the last 25 years :D

I understand what you are saying heartbroke.. And perhaps cosmetic issues become too important when they shouldn't be. I have a friend who is my age, and he is on a high tech wheel chair that gives him all of his life support systems. He would trade his hair in a heartbeat to be able to walk, run, and live a normal life.

I understand that perspective, however, its hard to undermine hairloss as insignificant. We as human beings are very shallow by nature. If the book doesnt look pretty, we wont read it. Image is a huge part of life, and that is why there are billion dollar industries surrounding social ideologies of what beautiful is, or what sexy is, or what masculine is, or what attractive is. The weight loss industry has a profit margin well beyond the hairloss industry.. and when you think about it, a majority of those who are on extreme diets, taking pills, joining fitness centers are doing so more for a cosmetic change in appearence then for health reasons..

The bottom line, and main point of my post, is that we all subconsciously strive to reach not only social ideologies imposed on us, but to be a part of the commonality that surrounds us. If 60 percent of men were bald in their 20's we wouldnt face these insecurities of our appearence, because being bald would be beautiful. It is when we are living life as an outlier on a bell curve that we become depressed over our situation. That is why most men who are 60 or over might not care as much about their hairloss. Sure you have bruce willis, vin disel and others who are famous and have an influence that can show bald as being sexy or whatever.. But that reach isnt strong enough.. It wont extend to the highschools where your a balding student, and everyone has a thick carpet on their head.. and girls know you as the bald guy.

I know how superficial people can be because I am bald myself. But believe it or not people judge you in the long run by your actions not by the way you look. I understand what all you guys are saying but to be depressed over something you can't control doesn't make sense. Also the way you see yourself is not the same way people see you. I have seen a lot of good looking guys not able to pull in chicks because they think of themselves as ugly. Oh yeah as for some of you guys who think society is superficial, it can be, but only to an extent. You guys gotta stop living in planet hollywood and comparing yourself to hollywood movie stars because there are more ugly people in this world than pretty people and that's fact. Girls smell insecurities and will not touch you with a 10 foot pole unless you are naturally very good looking. Personality is something you can control. Get a personality and you won't have to rely on your looks, which so many of you say is fading because the numbers of hairs on your head is diminishing.

I know I know, it's about priority. Girls probaly won't date a guy that has a bad persona for very long. Even still I'm going to give hair loss some sort of run for it's money, if I can't beat it I'll just have to become Mr. Nice guy LOL :D

I agree with the originator of this post that there is no point in worrying about your regimen and becoming upset and depressed if nothing has helped with your condition. You should get on with your life and make the best of it without being hampered by something you have no control over.

However, your post sounded as if most on here were in a deep state of depression and who's main chore in life was counting and recounting their shed hairs after the shower. The majority of people who post here seem to be in control of their lives and whilst doing their best to maintain their hair, enjoy a perfectly normal life and remain upbeat.

Arnold Swartzenegger did more hormone altering drugs than anyone and he is doing fine now and instead of 5yrs he did it for 40 years. Whats your point dude?

I doubt Arnold will see his 65th birthday, he isn't that healthy either, with triple bypass surgery done when he was around 50. If Arnold didn't continue to take hormones he'd be as weak as a Tea right now. I'm surprized his hair didn't fall out though. I'm not saying Finasteride will cause as much harm because I'm taking the stuff myself, but I wouldn't do hormones like Arnie does. I wonder if DHT levels will stay permantly surpressed if Finasteride is taken for long enough

Arnold had a procedure done to repair a faulty heart valve, which was said to be something he genetically inherited. And, Arnold looks pretty f*****g healthy to me. I think the benefits of working out your entire life far surpass the negatives of steroid use.

And to the dude above this guy: There is no way Arnold used steroids for 40 years. :)

If you read my entire post you would have read that society is superficial to an EXTENT. Don't try to bullshit me into thinking like you. I may be bald balding but I am not like you. I'm succesful in all areas of life no matter what, it's laughable because the number of hairs on my head that fall off don't mean jack.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to think like me, you see balding doesn't bother you, thats fine. I'm not completely heartbroken by hair loss either, I'm going to try a few things and if it doesn't work I'm not going to cry.

I know this might sound like a cliche, but you don't want to be go out with girls that just value looks ( well at least not on a long term relationship anyway ). I don'tknow how long you're into your hairloss, but in the beginning it bothered me more than it does now
