When you go on dutasteride and stop finasteride, will you lose hairs again?

All the growth or maintenance you had on finasteride, will all of it be completely gone, or can the dutasteride maintain all of that?

I'm not sure exactly what will happen. I'm thinking about going on Dutasteride, and my doctor actually okayed it but didn't exactly say that it would work better. He just said that it blocks TWO androgens I'm assuming, instead of only one that Finasteride blocks, but I was never really told if it works better or not.

That would make scientific sense that it would work better and be stronger but, is it? It's been out for a while now, and no one is saying how it works better than finasteride.

Will I lose all of my growth from finasteride when I switch over to dutasteride? OR will the dutasteride just take over?


Why is finasteride more effective than dutasteride for hairloss?

Not to scare you but I went cold turkey from finasteride to dutasteride and after 9 months on dutasteride, I lost almost everything I gained on finasteride and this was after having had amazing results on finasteride for almost 2 years. I can only pray that I can gain most of the hair I lost when I go back on finasteride again.

Well I guess that answers it then. No switching to dutasteride then, especially if finasteride seems to be working.

Can you switch them up and use them at the same time at all? like one week finasteride, one week dutasteride?

Yup, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I had to learn that the hard way unfortunately.

However, there have been a number of people on this board who made the transfer from finasteride to dutasteride and they've had positive results. I guess it all depends on how good your body responded to finasteride. If you were a great responder (like I was), then you have more to lose by switching to dutasteride as opposed to someone who responded poorly to finasteride.

And there are people who use dutasteride like once or twice a week and use finasteride the other days. Not sure if that's advisable, but it works for them.

Ok so since that question is answered...I guess the next would tend to go with....how SAFE is it to use both at the same time generally...even if it's within the course of a week or so?

I mean they ARE two totally different drugs, so it's not like you're overdosing or whatever,..

I am currently on dutasteride and Propecia (1 pill of each, once a day). I was on Propecia for several years and it's effects started to wear off, so I added dutasteride. I haven't had any major side effects so far. Sometimes I think I have a lower libido, but that could just be normal aging (I'm 33).

there is also somebody that switches from fina to duta and lost hair...

and in some other cases where fina didnt work , duta did the job great...
so it could be person depended : for the one it will work , for the other it will not work so great....

the hairs that are lost from going from fina to duta : are the thin or dence ?
if the hairs are thin , it can be that its improvement : shedding...

i'm 11 months on duta (avodart) and i'm verry happy... 0% hairloss and dence hairs
before i started duta i had verry thin hairs and a lot of hairloss...
so it can do wonders on your hair, and its the strongest dht blocker , more advanced than fina...

maybe your hair gets fina depended , and by switching to duta it sheds ?

have you had better results(i mean regrowth or maintenance) taking dutasteride(0,5mg) while taking propecia as well, every day?as you do now. hav u experienced your sides thinning as Timi and other guys?
i am 11 months on propecia and i am thinking to add dutas to have better results like more regrowth.

I definitely had success with maintenance and I would say some re-growth (can't say for sure as I started using minoxidil (Kirkland) around the same time. I haven't had any side effects with hairloss around the temples. I did have major dry skin the first two weeks of Dutas but that went away. How has the finasteride been to you?

the propecia helped to maintain my hair, but i want to regrow as much hair as i can. so that's why i was thinking to add dutasteride or saw palmetto while taking propecia a well. i know that this combination sounds very powerfull but i want to regrow as much hair as i can. the only thing that worries is not to have the opposite result with dutasteride.
