Dude, a very big chunk of the Middle Eastern people got hair in that area. Hairy southern european people too.

If you're a hairy man chances are the odds of getting bald are higher according to my observations. There is a studie that shows hairy men generally responds better to finasteride, so ther is a connection.

Oh dear, this is so confusing!

I, myself, have what is known as retrograde alopecia; thin short hair on the sides, behind the ears and napline (although I have VERY LONG hair elsewhere). So this is a new not-so-encouraging term to discover today! I don't know if researchers differentiate between "whisker hair" and retrograde alopecia.

Overall, I've developed this hair thinning on my sides since like 6 years ago, I am 26 now, NW2 in terms of standard hair loss measures and still have a decent amount of hair. Almost 10 months on finasteride and everything is great. One thing to note, my beard is so much thick (I am middle-eastern), does that mean that I will develop "thicker hair" in that "whisker hair" area? hahaah....

I cannot shave it because the rest of my hair is waist-length, and since I part my hair in the middle, both my bald temples and my thin sides (dont really care about behind the ears or nap-line since even girls sometimes have hair loss over there) are really hidden and so I like appear NW0 for people.

Unfortunately no, I was hoping for finasteride to thicken them but so far nothing. I've also tried minoxidil for 5 months and only applied it on my retrograde alopecia areas in addition to the classical temples, also with no result.

All in all, I expect that finasteride is really doing its job and maintaining (that if I was going to lose them in the first place) traditional hair areas, I wish I discovered finasteride before my temporal hairloss. So, unlike what that study said, "you did not develop severe quick whatever Androgenetic Alopecia" since you had the whisker hair for 10 years now, right?

I think it means whisker hair is a sign of a balding man, whether now or in future

For how long have you been on finasteride? What's your Norwood measure?

Yeah but if you read the other study, they said that it is a sign of a severe one; with severe, I can understand that one would lose his hair in terms of a year or two. That's what severe means on these boards I think...

I think this is moronic. Whisker hair as a indicator of baldness?? cmon! This article is from 1979 and what is even more fascinating is that was written by O'Tar T. Norwood, MD. :D
