I used Propecia for 7 years and whilst it slowed down my hairloss it still continued and I was getting thinner and thinner right through to my crown. About a month ago at my doctors suggestion I moved across to Avodart and my hairloss seems to have totally stopped. No more hair shedding when showering and no more hair shedding when brushing/styling my hair. I am really quite amazed and also a bit annoyed at myself that I did not switch a long time ago. I am yet to see any regrowth but am somewhat confident that combining Avodart with Rogaine may bring me some good results down the track given that my hair is no longer falling out. Based on my experience anyone continuing to lose hair on Propecia should certainly give Avodart a go to see if it can stop their hair loss the same way its stopped mine.
Started on finasteride when I was a norwood 3 and over 7 years have progressed to norwood 5. My thoughts are that if finasteride does not stop your hairloss within a few months then give dutasteride a try to see if that will stop it. Stopping the hair loss is the first and most important step and then you can work on regrowth strategies.
