i'm receding and diffusing .
but i would rather be a receder . i think hair looks better when its thick .

Thanks a lot. I can't make my front thick unless I get a lot of grafts and thin my sides in the process.


I think it is better to be a receder because you can get a front partial. But if you already got grafts, then it makes it tricker to do the partial since you got to shave often.

As Ali stated, diffusers have it worse (in long term).
I'd rather have a jude law hairline in my 30ies (hair transplant, anyone?) than thin hair all over my head.

If you get an hair transplant when you are very receeded, you will end up with thin hair all over your head, and be out $20,000. If you are beyond NW3/4, I would get a hair piece. Save you some money. I already went too far in the hair transplant direction, so for me it is better to just finish it and be done with it. I won't get the density of a hair piece, but I'll be done once and for all.

As some here said it all depends on circumstances.

I will say thought that if you've receded and done receding, and have straight hair to cover it, why moan...it is much easier to cover two temples than a balding crown, let alone the whole top of your head with side hair.

True diffusers will respond to treatment better, but the above is like covering a NW8 with a hair piece, except the piece is made with your own hair.

Unless you like slicked back hair, or have uber kinky hair, a temple recession shouldn't spell disaster for you.

Each have their pros and cons:

Diffusers Pros:
Some of us still have NW1 or NW2 hairlines
We 'supposedly' respond well to treatments

Cons:
Hair (in some cases) is thin all over
It gets worse for us in the long run

Receders Pros:
Besides the hairline, usually thick all over
With the right hairstyle, it can be masked

Cons:
Treatments 'supposedly' don't work well for them

I'd prefer to be a diffuser. That way I can buzz my hair really short and people would have no idea I was balding. When I was younger I got comments on how I looked better with a buzz cut than I do when with long hair. I would love to start buzzing my hair short again but it doesn't look so great nowadays with my big ol' forehead.

But as a receder, I'm forced to grow my hair and cover my bald/thinning areas which isn't too bad... but I'd rather buzz my hair and have a hairline that frames my face.
