Who Hasn't Experienced ANY Side Effects While On Finasteride?

Hi Guys, Have read many posts on this forum. I have been on finasteride since 2005, prior to this I used solely anti-androgens and minoxidil. At first for a year I used finasteride in conjunction with minoxidil but for the last 7 years I have just been taking 1.25 finasteride/proscar, basically whatever I can get hold of. I am lazy with my pill cutting just bite them (neanderthal) and probably unwise. That said, I have been a fantastic responder to finasteride, have slight recession around temples but as am now 37 can deal with it. I will post pictures shortly. As for sides I have been on finasteride for so long they are difficult to guage. I am going to get some bloodwork done because I am curious to know what is going on after 8 years or so not just sex hormones vit b vit d, thyroid the lot. Anyone had this done and had results showing major abnormalities or vitamin deficiencies compared to before they started finasteride? My difficulty is that I would have no pre-finasteride bloodwork to compare my results to. Look forward to sharing what I find out and some feedback.

I've been taking propecia daily for about 11 years now. No side effects except potentially for dry skin/dandruff, which I can't prove is linked to propecia.

I think it's impossible to say whether it has worked or not since there's no way of knowing about the condition of my hair if I never took it. What I do know is that my father became bald around age 23, my brother at 27 and I still have a full head of hair with a slightly higher hairline than normal at age 30.

After reading some studies about the minimum effective dose of finasteride, I decided to reduce by daily dose to half a pill of propecia and reduced it again to a quarter pill. I did not observe any noticable difference between taking 1mg vs. 0.5mg or 0.25 mg.

This is just my story. Everyone reacts to medication differently. Just try not to get too freaked out by reading these forums. Make sure you keep what you read online in perspective and talk to your doctor.

I've been thinking of doing .5mg a day, maybe I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the advice!

Good to hear, how long have you been on it?

3 years now.

I wouldn't take .5 mg. I took .75mg for a while I wanted to reduce my chances of problems, but .75 wasn't effective at all I maintained for about 6 weeks but on the 7th week my hair started falling out like a waterfall. I was really glad going back to 1mg I got all my rewgrowth back within about the same time frame. I actually eventually went up to 1.25 because of this just to be safe and have been there ever since.

I have friends who have been on finasteride for 5 years and maintained perfectly and never gave a thought to posting on an internet forum they don't even knwo they exist they have no reason to come here. And they are the majority.

Obviously this counts as nothing as I've only been on it 2 weeks but I've not noticed anything substantial, maybe a slight reduction in libido but I can still get a full erection when I want need to, in a way it's almost liberating not thinking of sex 24/7 lol.

I'm on 1.25mg EoD, it seems to be slowing my hairloss already.

13 months, no side effects. Just want to add, once I started I shed quite bad, well, not "bad", but where my hair was thinning (left temple) got drastically worse within a month, then around the 3 month mark everything was looking great again, right up until around 6-7 month mark (August-September) when I shed again! This wasn't as bad as my initial one, but it was a downer to say the least, now, say the past month or so, my hairline is getting thicker, not only or the left side, but my right side, which was always a strong Norwood 2 before I noticed my thinning left temple, is starting to re-grow hair I can't remember being there since I was about 15-16.

At this rate I'll have the thick NW2 (left side resembeld an NW1.5, hard to explain) hairline I had when I was 15-16 ..... :woot: I miss having slicked back hair, maybe, just maybe!

I went off of finasteride for a week, to see if I could report a difference, no real differences in anything, but whats odd is during that week my hair started filling in substantially and quickly. I don't know if it was the timing I went off of finasteride, but I have a lot of regrowth on my hairline. I'm gonna go with .5 see if it doesn't continue, and go from there. You may be right, but if I can take .5 and even retain what I've got I'll probably do it.

6 years in, 3 of them at .5mg and the last 3 at 1.25mg.

No sides to report, except for some ball ache when I started, and then again when I went to 1.25. Lasted for a week or so, then went away...never to return.

Actually, if you want to know about ANY CHANGE WHATSOEVER, then my semen is fairly watery if I do a quick jerk (perfectly normal if I have sex). But, you know what that did for me? It clued me in when I got a batch of bad finasteride from overseas. All of a sudden my semen was "normal" looking. Got legit finasteride (generic Proscar) soon after and it went back to watery.

Don't worry, I've had my sperm motility tested, and it's perfectly normal....so I really don't count it as a side effect.

I think most people get the watery semen with finasteride. Glad to hear it's not linked to sperm quality.

There are certain foods you can eat that will supposedly make your semen thicker

I'm not sure why guys feel like this is a problem. My girlfriend actually prefers it. Says it's much easier to "manage" if you know what I mean! ;)

I've been on it for about 3 months, the first two weeks my libido went sky high then it dropped below average, it slowly climbed back up over the next 4 weeks and tapered off at about 90% of whatIi had before taking the drug, originally my libido was incredibly high so what I have now I would still consider higher than average so it doesn't pose any problems, other than that i haven't noticed anything else, i've had quite a few mouth ulcers which i don't usually get but i can't really see the connection there. On the other hand after 4 weeks I noticed loads of regrowth in my temples and my hair is now quite a lot noticeably thicker and darker which is great, this drug was exactly what I needed, i don't take minoxidil because it seems like too much hassle, i hope i can get good regrowth and maintain on finasteride alone.
