Both sides of my family have great hair...especially my father's side. My mother's father died at 65 with a full head of black hair and my uncle on my mother's side has a redecing hairline right now but he's about 50. My cousins on that side, however, are all younger than me (I'm 24) and they look like they might experience hair loss too, but it's too early to tell for any of us.

It must suck, being one of the only few to inherit the male pattern baldness disease in your family. I am the only person to have male pattern baldness out of all my brothers (3 brothers) and my maternal uncles and cousins :( I sometimes get so f*ckin jealous to see my older brothers with more hair than me :(

all is not lost yet, maybe u have just diffuse thinning?Anecdotal evidence show that those who become total bald have brothers, uncles and grandads who are the same was well....It also tallies with the new esearch of the maternal side's influence on your own baldness

My mother's father had some noticeable recession by the time he died (in his late 70's was maybe a NW3), while everyone else related to my mother has perfect hair, including my cousins and uncles, and my mother's uncles (also at least in their late 70's).

However, I am thinning in the same manner as my dad and half-brother (my dad's oldest son). We have norwood 1-2 hairlines, with all the hair loss being a result of diffuse.

I'm also thinning alot more quickly than my older brother who is four years older than I.

Keep th epoll going , it seems that no balding of maternal side may only result in diffuse thinning?

My mom's dad had started losing some hair by the time he died (late 60's), but he didn't lose anything until his mid-late 50's. Also my mom's brother is 60 and he has a full head of hair, no grey or anything.

My dad's side is a little more interesting...my dad started losing his hair in his late 20's, he has a little bit left on top, both his brothers are completely bald. On top of this, his dad (my grandfather) is 83 and has a full head of thick grey hair.

Here I am 22 years old and a little ways past a NW2...

Grandfather on my fathers side had a perfect head of hair.
Thick.
Fathers brother has a full head of hair.
My father is bald.

Grandfather on mothers side had very fine hair into his 70's but wasnt slick bald. My mother has very fine hair and I got some of that.

My younger 20 yo brother is starting to lose his hair.
Ill be 25 soon, probably NW2 but things have seemed to have slowed down.

I think the main problem is that the gene for baldness lies in the X chromosome, this is one major factor...

Do you think those who with Diffuse male pattern baldness instead of typical Norwood male pattern baldness have baldness on fathers side and no baldness on mothers side?

Yes that's my notion, and the recent finding s on the mum's side seems to tally....with the poll above.dad genes contribute the thinning effect...and dat nakes that inheritance theory plagued wif questions.

It may show that excess DHT may cause an effect even though u may not have the male pattern baldness gene...
