I went from a nw1 with a thinning crown to a norwood 2 at the front in the space of a year. But I'm only a nw2 on the side i was applying minoxidil as a act of prevention. Could i be allergic to minoxidil and that's why the hair has disappeared there? I've been using it for a year and finasteride 1.25 for 3 months. The other side of my hair is absolutely perfect no loss at all.

might be couple of things mate..
maybe you r one of thoes who simply doesnt react to regular minoxidil and needs the 'sulphate' version instead...

could be that the alcohol or other stuff makes your skin inflammed and thus unable to grow hair on it...

go see a derma..

Hey man I am on the same boat as you. I only apply minoxidil to my temples and hairline but it appears that those are the regions that are thinning the fastest, even with minoxidil applied. Not sure what we can do other than to continue with it. Stay strong brother.

Are we absolutely sure there's no way minoxidil can't contribute to hairloss if you're not a responder? Because why am i continuing to lose hair only where I apply minoxidil after a year? I proposed to others that maybe the increased blood flow from the minoxidil meant more DHT reaching the folicle because i wasn't on finasteride for 7 months. To me this hypothesis doesn't sound unreasonable but people dismissed it based on "personal experiences" but we all know that everyones male pattern baldness is different, So what if minoxidil alone wasn't strong enough in my case but it was theres and thus was contributing to the harm via blood flow for 7 months?

I have the same issue. 5 months into finasteride/minoxidil and the hair went from NW1 to NW2 and the hairline is still losing hair. The first 3 months were fine but the 4th month I saw a lot of hair loss due to shedding or male pattern baldness. Who the f' knows. This is scary. Might go to the docs and get a prescription for dutasteride. Maybe finasteride isn't strong enough for us.

Same here! minoxidil made me shed for 1.5 years straight. I think its stopping now that i added finasteride. Damage is done though, nw1 to thining nw2.5.

I often read people posting about hair sheds 8 months + in using min. And follicles lie dorment for 4-6 months so I'd stick with it atleast until you are certain no regrowth is happening. And then opt for what others are suggesting.
