Why Are Hairs Not Lost On Sides/ Back?

Can someone please explain why hair on the sides is not lost and on the back when compared to the temples and top of the head. I've been reading a lot of alternative theories and it seems like the hairs themselves are no different but perhaps the environment/ bloodflow on the top of scalp is worse?

No one knows for sure, but I believe it could be because there obviously isn't much bloodflow at all to the top of the head, while there's movement in the back and sides of the head when we move our mouth to talk, eat, ect. Hope that makes sense.

Blood flow is not the reason or else we would smear vasodilators all over our head and grow our hair back (minoxidil).

blood flow simply is not the reason because hair transplants work. you're moving them from the back to the top. If blood flow was the reason, how would they survive on top? There is no sense to it my friend. Evolution left us with these unexplainable mutations that just "stuck". They neither help nor harm the species. It just happened at some point in time, and it was passed on through generations.

I still believe there must be a secondary advantage to top head balding. Some say it is better sun exposure and vitamin D creation. I am unsure it is something related to getting more sunlight because we all know what the sunlight can do to your skin especially in these latitudes.
But I still think that having no hair, in the past, must have given some survival advantage that non bald people did not have.
Evolution is not a joke. I have trouble thinking that evolution decided some men must be disadvantaged in reproduction, for no apparent reason.

Very good question....
IMO hairs on sides are not prone to have problems with sebum flow. In this area the acumulation and degeneration of sebum is more difficult due they are in physic contact with an absorvent surface during some hours mainly at night.

I thought the sebum theory was bullcrap.
I mean, i had oily hair all my life, and never started going bald until i was in my early twenties.
Now my male pattern baldness slowed down/almost stopped at NW2.5 and i still have a buttload of sebum.

I can't imagine it's sebum build up? I mean I don't wash my hair (just nizoral on the scalp hairline) and the hair I have feels very nice to the touch.

Is there any history of Chimps or our nearest ancestors going bald as they age?

I mean they could be a good estimate as why it happens to us? Kind of looking into a time machine. I just saw an article saying that some apes/chimps/monkeys (I forget which one) technically have just entered the Stone Age.

Also how would you tell that you have a lot of Sebum?

A friend of mine also hasn't washed his hair in months and months and looks and feels healthy plus his Dad is balder than a snooker ball.

The problem with sebum is not the quantity but quality.
sebum is a inestable material that change physical, chemical, and biologically. It is neccesary for a healthy hair but it need continuusly make and eliminate. Its important that sebum flow naturaly.

With this theory we could explain the different incidence of common baldness between sexes, only taling in count the genetically program of density, thickness and lenght of scalp hair
It is may idea but I can be wrong.
