Why do many people portray bald guys as losers?

Whether it be in movies where the bald/balding guys are often portrayed as bad guys or in commercials where bald guys are often mocked and ridiculed (aka the Snickers commercial), why do you think that society portrays bald guys as losers? To expand on the question, why do you think that hair is so important to most people especially women and it is considered the "end all be all" of looking good or ugly to many people?

I have been called a loser on a few occasions by women even before they know anything about me at bars or wherever and I never had this happen before I started losing my hair and I've always acted the same. I just find it interesting.

I dont think it matters about your hair if your a loser or not.

it matters how you act..

if your a young guy and your trying to cover up your bald spot with a combover.. .ya people are going to think instantly... LOSER

but if you buzz it short.. get a tan and act fine.. your gold...

Because you are less attractive when you are bald. Hollywood likes to promote the lie that attractiveness = goodness, uglyness = evil. In general, the opposite is true, most of the true assh0les I have met have been very attractive, where as the nicest people I have met are usually ugly or overweight.

Humans are becoming an awful race, careless of anyone with genuine feelings of self-hate.

We've always been an awful race; name one society throughout history that wasn't founded on a shallow social hierarchy of some sort.

BTW what you need to do baldguy28 is get a hair piece, wear it to a bar, find the shallowest girl you can find (they're easy to spot; they're the really hot ones), preferrably to go her place, do her from behind and take the piece off while you're doing it; when she turns around after you're done and sees your shiny bald scalp you run out of her house yelling "haha you had sex with a BALD guy! I'm going to tell EVERYONE!" Never go to that bar again.

Does anyone watch Smallville? The character who plays Lex Luthor is named Michael Rosenbaum. I recently saw a picture of him with his hair grown out, and he looks funny... Has no hairloss, but really nails the bald look to the point where he should always shave his head, IMO. Not because he has the head shape for it (it's not bad, but not great)

One reason is because of the clothes he wears (IMO). As Luthor he's always wearing suits, and there's something about it that makes the bald look complete. In general, I always imagined someone who shaved their head to be a banger, acting tough or what have you (before I started losing my hair).

It's really an image thing. How you present yourself.

LOL, yea, I saw him on some cheesy sci-fi flick a few weeks back with hair. He did look odd! He's *definately* sexier and more confident-looking without hair. Something about the way he "owns" it, makes it part of his being, in no way "apologizing" for it.

I think it has to do with the fact he's not balding. He doesn't have to be self conscious about it. He has hair, but he chooses to be bald, rather then taking that route because you have to. It’s about how you perceive yourself and then present yourself with that perception.

some of you guys are wrong....

the shield for example, Michael Chiklis (detective mackey) looks amazing without hair, also the rock... and bruce willis, all of them have male pattern baldness.

but all those guys have big strong bodies, if you are a skinny guy and have male pattern baldness... now there is a problem

So, from my point of view... the key to look good without hair is a big strong body

and I think that the lex luthor guy in smallville looks much better with hair....

maybe 'we' bring it upon ourselves. i know my self confidence went to sh*t until i made a conscious decision to pick a regime, stick to it and hope for the best and then live the rest of my life as if i was nw1. you do read a lot of posts hear of people moaning about how their lives over because of hairloss (wont mention any names cos that would be nasty) and people notice that type of attitude in your personal demeanor. the point is, if we thought about it less i bet other people would to.

Guys who are bald aren't seen as losers it's the guys with combovers or horseshoes like danny devito or jason alexander that are looked at as being the loser/funny guy.

You don't see guys like bruce willis, vin diesel, the rock or Jason Statham being pegged as bald losers.

It's all in how you present yourself. You can be a bald babe magnet if you try.

Is the Rock Bald? He had hair in Doom.

He has some hair but has been losing it over the years. His hairline basically starts in the middle of the top of his head now. He uses makeup to help round out his hairline and has been known to wear a piece now and then.

Vin said in some interview that he started shaving once he had a bald spot and started to diffuse. Going bald is a good thing in his case imo, he looks way better without hair.

just look at terry o' quinn (lost) or billy zane (the mummy,...) , i think they look really good with shaved (balding) heads. ofcourse they're both quite tall and strong.. i think that matters a lot when you're bald. or are there other examples of shorter bald guys who look good?

Watch any gangster film such as Snatch, the big tough henchman/club doorman are almost always bald or shaven headed. Certainly not the sort you'd like to call a loser to their face anyway!

I think Patrick Stewart is far from a loser, with or without a bald head. He's a great actor and comes off as a great man.
