Why Does Balding Wasn't A Thing 20 Years Ago?

So I took a look at my dad's pictures from his 20's.
He's 47 and full of hair, thick and not even temples lmao.. but that's maybe because he got lucky and some badass genetics unlike me(I'm balding hard since I was 20. I'm 24 and nw2.5).

But this is not my point. My point is that in those pictures, all his friends, ALL of them, who were 23-30 years old like him, had perfect hair. Thick, no balding signs.
Its ridicules that many of them even had that long *** hair, and most of them just had a full head of hair, no temples, no visible hairline.. nothing.
And I'm looking at myself, and at people nowadays, and we literally go bald af at 20 years old.

Yeah maybe 10% of us.
But let's say alot of people nowadays go bald or at least experience any hairloss when they reach 25, right? It fair to say. Even thinning or temples or something.

But my dad and his friends, All of them (and yes I have looked at many pictures lol, with many of his friends from several years) had a full head of hair at 23 years old,24,25,26,27 .. I mean wtf

What's wrong with us?
It's because the phones? Because the nutrition ? It must to be something..

P.S

look at concerts from the 90's and 2000's ...
first of all look at the band members

they are all in their 20's and have no signs of hairloss
second,
look at the crowd.
Bunch of men in their 20's and 30's.. their hair looks flawless, you can't even find one men with visible temples.

So yeah, I think I can say for sure that people nowdays are balding much more than 20 years ago for some reason.

another example:
look at the band members (they are 25+ years old here)
and most of all
look at the crowd
look at the guys who jump in from the crowd to the stage.. they have like a full head of hair, thick and long..

they are at their 20's..
these days even people who got hair at their 20's don't have this thickness.

It's amazing and I wish I knew what are the differences between now and 30 years ago.

Many things. Steroids, nutrition, pornhub, endocrine disruptors. People are definitely balding younger and more severely, and this holds true in most countries I think.

Pornhub? People read playboy magazines also 30 years ago.
Steroids? The average guy doesn't use them.

I mean wtf is going on.. it's so frustrating

Your post has some truth but is maybe over exaggerated. The large majority of young guys still have Norwood 1 or 2 hair. I remember at college like 99% of guys were Norwood 1 or 2 with thick hair otherwise, only a few in my engineering classes went bald early. Many of the grad students as well, but not all.

How long ago were you in College though? It wasn't bad when I was in college either, but it seems to be getting worse the last ten years.

Graduated about 6 years ago, doubt in a span of 5 years it could have gotten much worse.

The average guy doesn't have to use them. It's just one reason why balding is increasing. That's the reason in some cases.
People watch pornhub for hours. 30 years ago they looked at Playboy for ten minutes in the bathroom. There's a big difference.
Also they ate homemade meals, not McDonalds or Chinese takeaway which are now on every corner. MSG, sugar, all increase inflammation.

How many people (on a population level) are on steroids you think... Most of my friends don't even go to a gym...
Pornhub... sigh...
Nutrition... how? As in; due to which dietary shift according to you?

Pollution is a major factor besides genetics, diet has it's impact also but i'm almost convinced that pollution and radiation have a major impact, even latest research is pointing towards it, but all of these are only aggravating factors of a genetic condition or susceptibility, at least this is my opinion...

I read a study some time back that over 10% of high school athletes in one Wisconsin district were using steroids. How many people(on a population level) do you think are balding in their teens and early 20s? It's not that high, we are talking about generational factors that shift the numbers by a few percentage points.

So you base your statement on a study of high school ahtletes in Wisconsin... Do I really need to say more? Even if I would grant you that this is a representative sample to make claims about total steroid use, you will still need data about steroid use of 20 years ago to see if it was actually less back then.

We've been over this. I provided the studies proving that masturbation increases DHT. It's foolish to think that doing something for hours that increases DHT is not going to affect your follicles.

You are again making the same mistake... Even if I were to grant you that the minor DHT spikes that masturbation give you would actually have an effect on hair: How many guys truly masturbate hours for on end on a daily basis? Never enough to truly have a significant impact on the total amount of balding men

Read about Mtor. A diet that leads to insulin resistance will also lead to hair loss in some individuals. Vegan diets are well known to cause hair loss too.

Never heard about Mtor but I will look into it. And no, it is not well-known that vegan diets cause har loss. It is an old myth like how people used to say that you can not build muscle on a vegan diet and other bogus that has been disproven a long time ago. Show me a study that says otherwise...

Tbh I think nutrition was worse back then because everybody was eating McDonald's Burger King etc. Especially in the 80s and 90s. I think alot has to do with all the gmo related foods. Everything is genetically modified more so now then back then. So the same junk food now isn't the same as it was then...also environmental pollution is probably another reason.b

The kicker is -
-We have meds that slow down balding which they didn't have back then
-We have ways to hide balding like transplants, concealers, hair systems, and shaving is acceptable
-We smoke less, drink less, and do less rec drugs than they did back then (please look up the statistics before getting salty with me about this)

Yet STILL we see a lot more guys balding in their 20s now.

It's due to food, p**rn, and another generation of passing the bald gene. It's a potent gene.

I think a lot of it is also stress related, moreso than food or other things. Stress is proven as a trigger that accelerates male pattern baldness. Why are people more stressed today?

1. Globalization has increased the pressure in the workforce, constantly needing to keep skills to date as to not get replaced. This pressure starts early on in schools.
2. Social Media is a proven stressor, particularly when used excessively, which many people do.
3. There is some statistic that 40% of Americans couldn't afford to pay a $400 emergency medical bill. There is wider economic disparity between the haves and have nots.

If we use Japan instead of America as an example, Japanese culture is considered very stressful. It is extremely cut throat and competitive, and people work very hard.

I don't know what the science would be behind the p**rn watching, but I'll tell you one thing - I have male pattern baldness genes on both sides of the family, I smoke, I drink, and have not lived the most healthy lifestyle. But my hair only began to thin at 32, even now at 35 its still ok-ish. But the only computer I had access to as a kid was the family computer in the kitchen on dial up connection, until I got my own laptop and went to university at 19.

If I had access to a private infinite high speed p**rn machine as a kid, I have a feeling I would have been a diffuse NW4 at 22 years old, I would probably be dead by now.

One of my friends hairline started receding by 14/15 but his was a lot more aggressive than mine. It was pretty bad around the 19. Then he decided to do steroids around 20/21 and is completely bald at 22. Also, a lot of my friends 19-22 have early stage to moderate hair loss already. One of my friends who is 20 has diffuse and receding hair line with pre mature greying :( sh*t sucks. Especially since the media puts even more emphasis on looking young and youthful these days.

The data is out there. I am not interested in digging it up right now, but you can if you're that interested.

If you are not interested in digging up sources to back up scientific claims you should probably refrain from making scientic claims to begin with... You are right, you do not need a study to show that the sky is blue. You do however need data to back up statements like p**rn consumption has an effect on hair loss and that vegan diets cause hair loss as both are far from common knowledge. if I would grant you that you indeed 'have no time to look up these studies' I can tell you that I have looked up these studies and guess what... there is nothing out there that should be taken will be taken serious enough, at least not as a means to back up the claims you made.

"A recent study says around 33% of males aged between 16-34 years old are addicted to Internet p**rn and this figure is growing every day as high-speed Internet is becoming more wide spread."
https://oceanrecoverycentre.com/2016/07/the-ultimate-guide-to-overcoming-internet-p**rn-addiction/

Oh I believe that the number of men addicted to p**rn is increasing. But that was not the point of discussion. You said that edging yourself four hours on end will spike DHT and you mentioned this as a potential reason why more men go bald these days. Also, this article talks about p**rn addiction but not does not define it. You could have all the symptoms that are mentioned from your daily 3 minute wank as well. I think we can both agree that this will not impact DHT levels enough to have any effect.

I really doubt there will be much in scientific studies out there making these links. I think a lot of guys here are just spitballing ideas on why this is happening. So what changed between the 90s and now? With hairloss meds available and healthier living (by millennials and younger) you would have expected the opposite to happen. The only real massive change in the last 20 years is our technology, specifically computer/internet related.

So while there's no scientific proof that the unprecedented and sudden ability of 12 year old boys to privately access endless amounts of any kind of p**rn they can imagine has affected hairloss, no one has come up with a better explanation so far, and it is an interesting idea that should be examined further.
