Why does finasteride work for some but not for others?

Some people acheive great re-growth on finasteride, a lot of Docs out there say it will only maintain, but this is obviously not true as there are many people on this forum who have had great results.

Does anyone know why finasteride regrows hair for some, only maintains for others and dooes very little for others?

Is it to do with the extent/aggression of the hairloss?

"Is it to do with the extent/aggression of the hairloss?"

Great question -- I think you hit on it here. If someone is losing hair faster than the medication can catch up, there is going to be a battle between the dht and propecia. I would think people that have a slow progression of loss would benefit more. Also -- I think age of follicle deterioration is key. If a follicle is completely shrunk, it takes a lot more to revive it, if that's even possible, hence why many doctors will say it'll only prevent further loss.

its more likely the opposite... people with aggressive hairloss in a SHORT period of time seem to get good results if they get on finasteride ASAP....

In terms of follicle deterioration, how long can a follicile be shrunk for before it can never be revived?

If you had full coverage three years ago and now balding at the vertex and temples, is it possible to fully regain that whole coverage from propecia and minoxidil or will the hair follicle be too far gone?

It mystifies me how it works so well for some and not so for others. There must be a scientific reason behind it? It surely can't be down to luck?

Does hair colour texture have anything to do with it? Like people with fair, light hair respond less than those with thick dark hair?

So many questions, but good ones!

In my opinion, it shows us that hair loss isn't that simple as we might think it is.
Probably more biochemical precesses are involved than merely DHT. There are more
factors other than we know of.

Plus, as it was mentioned above, even if DHT plays the major part in most individual,
it is also important how long the follicles have been shrinking...Finasteride on its own doesn't encourage regrowth, but simple takes away the hormonal factor (and even then, not to 100%). Sometimes the shraunk follicles just aren't strong enough to go back to the normal
state.

I personaly believes that scarring is also involved in balding, and some follicles will never go back to what they were...scarring is the process when a normal and healthy tissue is turing into scar tissue which disfuncions.

i know lots of people that are not very responsive to drugs (of many kinds!) and some who are very responsive.... i dont know why this is but i do know that my body is very responsive to drugs, excerice, stress, diet etc etc and so far i am getting good results in a very short period of time....
