Why is gene cure so hard to find?

Why can't you just take a hair from the back of your head and a hair from your balding area. Do a DNA test of both of them and you will see where the differences are. Now use those genes changing viruses to make hair the same as the one in the back and you're cured.

Well if it worked that easy it would have been done already but is it realy that hard?

identify the genes is only part of the story...

to mutate the genes is another thing... you might end up into teenage mutant ninja turtles with their master splinter..

Gene therapy is not that easy at all. It's much more than just identifying the gene. You will also need to find out how to get the gene to express/unexpress itself within the cell, and you need to find a suitable vector which can be absorbed easily by the cells in your scalp. In addition, some phenotypes (physical expression of genes) are caused by groups of genes, and so sometimes you need to isolate several genes rather than a single one and find out how they work in relation to each other.

add to that the fact that they'll hopefully be working on the life threatening illnesses before they even think about hairloss, and i'd have to say you probably shouldnt hold your breath.
