it acts as a mild topical DHT inhibitor. it's by no means a substitute for Propecia, but as side effects are mild to nonexistent and the stuff is cheap and available everywhere, it gets thrown into the "can't hurt" basket.

and even if the above is complete hocum, it also makes your hair cosmetically thicker as a rule, which is also nice.

nizoral just makes you shed believe me Ive been on Proscar 2+ years and Ive tried both nizoral and Revita for months each, both times Ive shed. Without in the regime I go no sheds at all.

Maybe it does for you but me and thousands others use it with great success and no shedding. It's very mild to cause sheds, your case is a odd exception.
There's a reason every hair forum names it as one of the "big three".
