Why take it easy with Nizoral?

Assuming frequent nizoral use does not irritate your scalp, why not use it every day? Or at least every other day?

Dr. Lee's shampoo is pretty much the same thing as nizoral 2% (if I understand correctly) and he says his shampoo can be used daily.

Because there's nothing to suggest that everyday use produces better results. If there's an optimal dose, then by definition, anything above or below that wouldn't be as effective. We may not know what the optimal dose is, but we do know there's not a whole lot of research that tested the safety of long-term everyday use.

I used Nizoral two days in a row... that was a week ago and my hair is as still dry as a bone...

That stuff is lethal... good stuff, but using it everyday should theoretically set fire to your head... then what you gonna do?

Yup, just what I thought...

I think I'm gonna try the every other day approach. Anyone have any stories, positive or negative, about this approach?

And once again, if Dr. Lee's shampoo is ok for daily use (which contains twice the active ingredient that regular Nizoral does, right?), I'd think every other day nizoral use should be aiight.

To quote Dr. Lee's shampoo bottle:

'Although Regrowth Treatment Shampoo CAN BE USED DAILY, the best cosmetic results are obtained by alternating its use with another shampoo with conditioning additives.'

The anti-fungal agent can potentially harm your liver in mass doses.

It's the same dose as in prescription Nizoral. A drug's safety profile should be based by published studies, not on what you read on a bottle.

It also says on the Nizoral bottle to use it for only 8 weeks. Were there ever any problems with using it for a much longer period of time?

the bottle says in big letters DO NOT USE MORE FREQUENTLY THAN STATED, which is 4x per week for 2 weeks and then just once a week thereafter. using it 3x a week is because we, as male pattern baldness sufferers, are more prone to irritated scalps. but using it every day or every other day? not only will this fry your hair, maybe even permanently damage the hair shafts, but might be harmful to the follicle - after all, they put the warning on the bottle for a reason. may be to cover their backs, but the reason still exists - this is strong stuff.

Why isnt tgel cause damage if you use like 5x a week and if you use nizoral for 5x a week your hair will fry and damage it. Currently im using nizoral 2x and tgel other days and maybe jasons once a week, is this any good ? :)

I dropped T/Gel after I learned that coal tar is carcinogenic (i.e. causes cancer). It's been proven to cause cancer in animals, it's been proven to cause cancer in humans who dealt with it as part of their occupation. The reason they can sell this shampoo is it has not yet been proven to cause cancer in that form and in that dose. But the data available so far was enough for me to drop it, especially since it's not irreplaceable.

avri, can you provide some references for this claim, that coal tar is a carcinogenic substance?

Personally, I use regular T/Gel everyday. It is mild enough, unlike Nizoral. that it does not dry out my hair (nizoral really did a number) and my hair is still manageable. Sometimes, perhaps once/week, I use T/Gel conditioner with has sal. acid.

Did some Googling. Check this out:

http://www.health-report.co.uk/psoriasi ... nings.html

"As part of the legal proceedings, the NPF and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) submitted letters on behalf of the coal tar manufacturers stating there is no scientific evidence that coal tar products cause cancer, and that labels on the products suggesting they are carcinogenic would put them in violation of FDA guidelines. According to the FDA, OTC products with coal tar concentrations between 0.5% and 5% are safe and effective for psoriasis."

Seems like the FDA is on our side but maybe there is more to coal tar than we anticipated.

.

Here's what the FDA also says:

FDA said:
While there are animal and human occupational exposure data to show that coal tar is carcinogenic, the data does not support that therapeutic use of coal tar in concentrations and formulations used in OTC drug products poses a risk of carcinogenicity.

Coal tar has been the first carcinogen ever discovered (in 1911). With evidence in both animals and humans, I'm not waiting for the additional data they need to show up on my skin.

Well, at least you'll be able to pick out us gourmetstylewellness.com people at a party. We're the ones with the skin cancer on the scalp, limp dicks, and have that skunky spironolactone odor. Oh yeah, and we're bald.

When they did the niz2% trials to get it approved as an antifungalshampoo shouldnt they have noticed that it can be used against male pattern baldness?
The bottle with keto2% that I have says that mild hairloss is a common sideeffect.
The only study that Ive heard of is a study with 5 guys or something like that.

No. The trials tested whether a 6-week treatment with 2% Nizoral as a single agent, can help combat dandruff.

Who cares that there is no definitive study that Nizoral does anything to help counter hairloss. Just shut up and take the sh*t. The gourmetstylewellness.com brain trust says to use it, so use it.

Didn't know that  where is it written?

This could explain a lot to me as when I use Nizoral I loose around 2-3 times more hair than when useing a conventional shampoo.

Distressed.

i use nizoral 3 times a week and t-gel one time....

Nizoral really keeps the itching away....

For example, i used minoxidil saturday night at 23:00 and woke up at 6:45am because i really had the urge to scratch my head....

Then i decided to shower and use nizoral... 15 minutes later is was away.....

And i did use nizoral the other day as well........

Dont know if two days in a row is bad, but my itching definitly went away....

Cheers
