Why the fear of buzzing/shaving?

I was actually going to bring this thread up again because I was surfing the net a few days ago and came across a page where people (all women I assume) were talking about Beckham's latest buzzed hairdo. They were all in agreement that the buzz looks great and a few of them said that he looks best with a buzzed head. Here's the link:
http://justjared.buzznet.com/2007/05/09/david-beckham-bald/all-comments/#comments

Granted, he is one of those guys who'll look good with any hairstyle, but I still find it interesting how it was pretty much unanimous that they loved the shaved head.

I have buzzed my hair once 3 months ago and I will make it probably again as temples are thinning last weeks.

With a good head shape, you should definitely buzz it off. I have an awful shaped head (I get teased A LOT b/c of it), but I still went ahead and did it. And tbh, even with the head abnormality, I still think it looked good. I got more attention from the ladies (not a whole lot, but more) after I buzzed it.

What exactly is this head abnormality you have? You have mentioned it in lot of your posts, but I still can't get it. You were talking about a bump or something?

Sure, a nw1 buzzed always will look good because you have the shadow of the small hairs that frame your face and your forehead.

The real bald guy in the other hand..... is just that.... a bald guy , not a sexy buzzed head by choice that always have the option to grow back all his hair.

I think that "option to growth it back if you want" is only in balding heads. I think that other people does not think this way. I have never thought this way. I have never thought about someone with temples that he is losing hair, he is going bald.

Well maybe others do, I dont know how it is possible but I really never thought about someone with temples that he is losing hair. It was just "he is like that whole life" or something this :)

Yeah it's a bump on the back of my head, where the spine connects to the skull (or around that area). Some people have a bump there, but mine protrudes A LOT. Tbh, I think if it weren't for the bump, I wouldn't even have bothered with any treatments and just shaved my head for the rest of my life.

I always get jealous seeing guys like you who have great head shapes with no abnormalities :(

nw1's will always look better than everyone else with a buzz cut, but there are nw2+ who can pull it off real well. Freddie Ljungberg and Kelly Slater are two examples.

Trust me, no one's bump protrudes as much as mine. And I'm not exaggerating or anything. When people say you look like an alien/freak or ask if it's cancerous, then you know know it's an abnormality. I'm still waiting for the day when I see someone with a bump as big or bigger than mine :(

Hey, is this gonna turn into a "mine is bigger than yours" contest? :)

I don't have a camera so I can't take a picture of my bump. But trust me, mine is bigger. Do you have a pic from the side, b/c it's more noticeable from that angle. But even looking at the back I can tell that yours is not nearly as big as mine.

kalbo i think everyone thinks that their head is the worst. it's my experience that 99% of people have a fine head shape.

I agree, people do tend to exaggerate things, but if you've been teased as much as I have, then it's safe to say that my head shape isn't suited for a shaved head. I even asked a few people (who give honest answers and aren't assholes) about the bump and they all said it does protrude a lot and that it's best to keep the hair a bit long in the back.

I can buzz my head with a 2 guard without it being too noticeable, but anything under that is when I start to get the remarks. When my hair starts to really get thin, I guess I'll have to get it surgically removed (hopefully it's possible) so I can start shaving my head.

dude no ethical doctor is going to remove your occipital bone for cosmetic reasons.

Yours could be a bit high, but it's nothing to worry about. Mine is actually much lower than that. I redrew your pic to show where my bump is (don't have any pics of myself that show it).

So as you can see, it extends out quite a bit. I'm just dreading the day when I'll have to start shaving my head.

Looks weird, is it really of that shape you drew there? Anyway, someone saying that you look like an alien sounds a bit harsh. Luckily no one has commented on my head shape, I just dislike it myself.

Sadly, that is the shape :( .... There's maybe a slight exaggeration in the size, but that's definitely how it's shaped. And until recently, I've had my head buzzed for almost a decade. So if I can buzz it with that monstrosity on the back, I don't see how some people can't do the same.

Any headshape looks better than mine to me. Looks like a nice round head, although the hair can make it look way better than it is.
