Widening center parting and crown, lots of hair shedding, not sure what to do.

So thought i'd finally make a post. I'm almost 21, always had a thick head of hair that was so thick it wouldn't lie flat and would annoying stick out at the back of my head

My hairline has receded a bit over the past few years but I convinced myself not to worry because my hair was so thick elsewhere. Over the past year or so though, my hair has been falling out a worrying amount in the shower/when i run my fingers through it.

I've been growing my hair for over a year, and started to part it in the middle once it got long enough. As you can see in these pics, this parting is not normal and has definitely got worse over the past few months with the scalp becoming more and more visible. I'm not too worried about my receding hairline since it's not really gotten any worse but i'm becoming obsessive over the hair i'm losing from the top and crown area. It's got to the point where I don't want to part it in the middle anymore because of how thin the hair looks in the middle.

Neither of my grandfathers went completely bald and still had a decent head of hair until they reached old age, my dad has a full head of hair, both brothers are in their 30s, one has a thick head of hair with no hair loss, the other has a receding hairline but no balding at crown.

I've been called a hypochondriac, but as you can see i am definitely losing hair on top. how bad will this get? Should I just cut my hair short and start on minoxidil?

To me your part looks normal, your hair is longer so the part is more visible. I'm assuming the first picture is your head pointing downward, if so it looks like a hair whirl and is exposed more now that your hair is longer. One of your temples is recessed or you just have a crooked hairline.

Rogaine does nothing to actually stop/hault male pattern baldness IF you have it, although it is used for regrowth.
If you do have its best to start Propecia/Finesteride as it actually can hault the DHT from killing your hairs.

Me personally I'd say your fine, but if you said your temples have receeded then think about starting propecia.

Just wanted to point out 5th picture reminds me of Jon Snows hair from the Game of Thrones.

Hey, so I realize this is coming out of the blue because this post is over 4 years old, but if you're still active on this site, I'd be interested to hear how your hair has progressed and what sort of treatment you are using for it.

I believe I'm in a similar boat. I'm 23 and like you have always had very thick hair. 3 months ago I suddenly started shedding much more than normal in the shower and soon began to see my scalp become more visible along my part line going back to the top and crown area. However, I haven't noticed any significant change in my hairline. I've been on nizoral for 6 weeks and finasteride and minoxidil for a month.

My dad is in his 60's and been balding since his mid 30's, but I had always thought I had lucked out and gotten my mom's side for hair. My maternal grandfather had a full head of hair until he died at 95 and my twin brother has equally thick hair as mine before the last few months but he hasn't started losing it.

After I went to my dermatologist I did some blood work and they found I have a severe vitamin D deficiency. I'm now taking supplements for that. I doubt that's the cause, but obviously I want to get my vitamin D levels up to normal.

I would greatly appreciate any insight you have. Thanks!
