Straight from Propecia's website:

PROPECIA was developed to treat mild to moderate male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head) in MEN ONLY. There is not sufficient evidence that PROPECIA works for receding hairlines at the temples.

Frontal hairloss occurs becaouse of the same mechanism so it should be efetive. It is just that frontal hairloss is usually the most aggresive and early.

I recently went to a hair surgeon that is well known to get a propecia prescription for the front. Im only 19 so the only affected area is my hairline. However the surgeon refused to prescribe because he said propecia isn't effective in the front and the risks weren't worth it because my frontal loss was still minimal. So right now I'm looking for something else that can help me simply maintain my hairline since theres no damage anywhere else yet. I think the general consent among the medical professionals are that propecia wont help the front.

Hi,

Topic says it all really. Will finasteride stop hairloss/maintain the hairline?

It depends. The hairline is often the most sensitive area to androgens, and for a lot of people it won't stop recession. It will usually slow it down. Some people, though, do get regrowth, so it's worth a try.

it's not groundbreaking but it's a bit better and thicker and a whooole lot of peace of mind. plus i never look down in the shower anymore and see whole bunches of hair staring back at me. which i did before.
