So, I've been reading this forum for a few months now gathering knowledge and tips. Thanks to all who contribute this invaluable information, God knows doctors don't have sh*t to say. I feel like I've learned so much just reading through here.

I'm just starting on my "BIG 3" regiment with minoxidil/nizoral/Finisteride.

Background:
I'm 29 years old.
My dad is completely bald, my older brother is getting there (4 years older)
I've started noticing hair loss about a year and a half ago.
-thinning hair mostly
-not much, but some hairline recession
Been using 5% minoxidil for about a year, switched to foam when that came out.
Just got prescription to Propecia from my doctor and got some nizoral shampoo.

I hope to report some progress in a few months and am in it for the long haul. I'll post some pics when I get my camera back (repair shop). If anyone has anything to say about what to expect in the first month of taking Propecia, please share. I feel like I've read up quite a bit, but still hate any surprises.
Thanks again to all who've posted valuable information!

First month of Propecia?

I can't remember much, you won't see any change really.

In the 3rd months you will start your "Shed" period.

From what I've read here, am I to understand that with starting Propecia, I should have a shed about 12 weeks into using it?
Not looking forward to it, but no pain no gain right?

There is no guarantee you will have a shed, so don't even worry yourself about it. I believe most people don't have one, and many say that finasteride shouldn't even induce a shed.(I've heard that from two doctors as well, three if you count Dr Lee) If you dig deep into the posts here, the "shedding period" has no set timeframe to manifest. Some say they have a shed at 1 month 2 months, 3months, 4 months etc. etc. which makes me believe that they are witnessing a natural seasonal shed---which you're bound to hit within 3-4 months of starting finasteride anyway, a progression of their male pattern baldness, or just being overly paranoid because they are expecting one. I noticed a thickening of my hair during the third into the fourth month with a bunch of new hairs poking through and never had a shed. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the info. I'll just try not to think about that in the mean time and if it happens, I'll just treat it as a good thing.

I've also heard that loads of stress can lead you to lose more hair and I think I've experienced that myself. I went through a pretty stressful time with personal life/new job, lots of things at once and did notice that I was pulling more hair in the shower than usual.

Hmmm....maybe if I was just on Valium all the time...
