Not sure if my crown is thinning or not, my mums dad is bald however everybody else in the family has hair, without shuffling the hair you cannot see any signs of thinning however when moved it looks a bit thinner but I’m not sure whether or not it’s a whorl, cowlick or the natural hair parting where I lift it up, ask for more photos

I have similar hair to you. I started noticing that when I put my hands through my hair it just did not FEEL as thick as it used to. The only true way to know would be to ask yourself if your hair is as thick or get a shorter hair cut. It looks like it could be thinning, but nobody can tell you for sure or if it will get worse. You could also wet your hair and comb it down to see if the thinning areas are normal for hair being wet or if it looks like a large balding area.

When it’s wet it looks the same tbh but I’m not sold, is there any other method of confirmation?

My hair is similar to yours, and what I'm going to tell you is what I plan to do myself

I suggest you go see a dermatologist that can check your hair for miniaturisation.

I have curly hair with very similar texture, but I keep the sides/back area shorter, and I have noticed the same thing. I can clearly see that my crown has been thinning compared to the rest of my head, even though it's almost unnoticeable if I comb it in a swirl pattern unless it's bright lighting.

Also, if I do not "shuffle" my hair around, there is absolutely no scalp visible except for the crown area, but I've been growing it out for a couple months except for back and sides

From the top of the scalp, if I part the hair it looks like it's thinning slightly, and from the back I get a very similar pattern to yours if I part it.

My hair used to be very thick, so much that hairdressers actually complained about it, and I think the only reason I'm not bald yet is that I might have started with a very high follicle count.

I have an appointment with a dermatologist tomorrow, I'll ask them to check if I have abnormal hair miniaturisation

I plan to hop on finasteride for as long as a better treatment comes out, too worried about it when I should be focused on studies

If I were you, I would definitely go to a dermatologist, and ask for an actual test to give you an idea of where your hair stands, do not accept a quick glance and a little assurance that you are fine.

On the bright side, maybe something good will come out in the next few years?
Good luck!

Thank you for the reply

I’m not sure because if I left my hair the scalp in my crown area is not visable , and whenever I look at the crown, the “thinning” areas are separated into lines rather than diffuse thinning and im not sure what that means

I’m thinking of a haircut soon and that may give me an answer

Would it be alright if you posted some pictures just for comparison

I'll post some pictures tomorrow, because my extensive motor skills led me to drop my phone in a bucket of water and detergent :D
