Worried About Prostate Cancer Taking Propecia

Not my best day so I will keep it short.

My grandfather (my mother's father) had prostate cancer and my dad had a benign prostate tumor.

Should I even consider taken propecia since this treatment may make it difficult to diagnose prostate cancer?

On monday I will go to the specialist to discuss this same problem I just wanted to have more opinions I guess.

im pretty sure a drug that makes prostate cancer EASIER to detect, will be beneficial for you, obviously given you're 40+. But in reality, people have been taking propecia since 97 strictly for hair loss, so in 20 years, there hasnt been a crazy amount of lawsuits filed for this drug causing prostate cancer, honestly, havent even heard of 1, which means the chances are slim to none.

I am not talking about getting prostate cancer from propecia, I am talking about my high genetic probability of suffering this. I am pretty sure I've read somewhere a study about this treatment may make it difficult to diagnose. I am not an expert anyway. Thanks for replaying.

Actually, this treatment shrinks the prostate which makes prostate cancer or tumours easier to detect, that's a fact. And FWIW any man over 40 has a high probability of getting some form of prostate cancer.

Studies on the impact of finasteride on prostate cancer rates and severity have involved the 5mg preparation, and Propecia has not been shown to cause prostate cancer. However, Propecia has been proven to mask some of the symptoms and effects of prostate cancer, like prostate enlargement and elevated levels of a chemical called PSA which is produced by the prostate. This may interfere with early detection and diagnosis, meaning that for men taking Propecia prostate cancer may develop into a more advanced and aggressive stage before treatment is begun and therefore result in a worse prognosis.
