FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Xandrox 15% is a proprietary blend made by Dr Lee. It is comprised of 15% minoxidil, combined with 5% azelaic acid, suspended in a vehicle of alcohol and glycerin. The azelaic acid is a topical anti-androgen similar to spironolactone. Dr Lee’s website is a bit rudimentary, but his responsiveness to orders and timely shipping give him a big A+ in the customer service area, in my opinion.

It comes in a large 120ml container. The directions state that it is supposed to be used once a day, and standard minoxidil is supposed to be used for the other daily application. So, one bottle of xandrox 15 is supposed to last for 120 1ml applications, i.e. four months.

APPLICATION
Xandrox is applied with a dropper, just like normal minoxidil. I have always liked Dr Lee’s droppers for his minoxidil, and his xandrox 15 dropper does not disappoint either. In fact, I think it is BETTER than his standard 5% dropper. It is very narrow at the mouth, which helps provide accurate dosing and good droplet size control.

The solution itself is quite different in texture than normal minoxidil. It reminds me of sugar water… it applies as a liquid, but the minute it hits the warmth of the scalp it starts to get tacky and sticky. This is fantastic in that runniness and drippiness is not an issue with xandrox 15. But, this is bad in that you have what feels like a layer of dried cola on your scalp and forehead… sticky and tacky.

WEARING IT, AND DRYING TIME
In the product literature, Dr Lee states that you should expect a tingling or stinging sensation on the scalp from the azelaic acid. This is true, and frankly it feels very pleasant, especially after a good Nizoral or T/Sal soak. In fact, it feels better than pleasant, it feels f*****g fantastic.

The primary downside of xandrox 15 is the drying time. Frankly, it never does. It just starts as a tacky liquid, and over the course of hours transitions to a pasty layer, and then to a tar-like layer. Luckily, the substance is clear so on the scalp it is not noticeable. However, my affected area is the frontal/temples, so it looks as if I have a layer of Vaseline or something on my bald temples. Fortunately you only have to use the xandrox once a day, as it is not something I would ‘wear’ out of the house given my particular hairloss pattern so I have used it in the evenings.

When I awaken in the morning, most of the tackiness is finally gone and what is left is the familiar dusting of white minoxidil powder.

RESULTS
Definite results. I have been using it for, say, about two months now, I think. There is a noticeable jolt in the ‘sprout patch’ area of the temples. However, I think most of us veterans know that not much really ever develops from this initial ‘sprout patch’ activity, but it IS an indication of positive effects. Most of my results have been coming along the sides of my center strip hair, my infamous ‘Isthimus of Panama’ pattern in the center forehead. It is hard to tell, but I do notice a preponderance of sprouts on the sides. These sprouts have historically been the ones that have held their ground. However, the most noticeable improvement is in the upper corner area of my temples. This top corner area was somewhat reclaimed from my normal minoxidil use, and the xandrox has reinforced this with some impressively thick hairshafts here. Then again, this might have been caused by my normal minoxidil usage over the last year and a half so it is hard to say. Nevertheless, what I can say is that I did see some of the typical ‘initial symptoms’ of minoxidil response after two months on the sh*t. This is remarkable, given that I’ve been on minoxidil for a year and a half. In short, for someone already on minoxidil, stepping up to xandrox has given me that same jolt of initial results as if I were starting minoxidil for the first time.

CONCLUSION
In short, I DO think that xandrox 15 definitely inspired some new regrowth. However, I am going to discontinue it personally because I don’t want to return to the days of Rogaine-like greasiness. I am too used to the relative invisibility of Dr Lee standard 5% minoxidil, and perhaps it took this brief experience with xandrox 15 to remind me how much I hated dealing with that greasiness back then. For those who want results over and above 5% minoxidil, and don’t mind the visibility of the substance on your scalp in the evenings, you might want to consider trying it.

NOTE- The product I tried was Xandrox 15%. I have not used Xandrox 5%, and do not know anything about it's characteristics but I hear that Xandrox 5 has application qualities that are more similar to minoxidil.

Interesting. Now this folks is how you write a review. Well done Tree Planter.

So do you think it would be possible to apply an app on top of it to any benefit? I highly doubt it. It sounds like anything you were to add on top would just sit there on top of the 15% running off or simply turning into a mess.

What did you do with your spironolactone app? My God it must stink if you add it after 15%.

Hey Cassin. Well, I dropped the spironolactone a little while back. NOT that I doubt it's effectiveness, but I just experimented with a month without it, and saw no shedding nor loss so I figured why stick with it? Besides, I was on Xandrox!

Anyways, now that I am off the X, I will probably restart spironolactone, but not the 2% stuff. I'm going to use the 5% cream, a thin layer in those upper temple corners and along the coastline of my isthimus of panama. spironolactone 5 doesn't smell, and if you apply it thinly enough, it is rather invisible.

As for other topicals plus xandrox 15, boy are you right on the money! Forget it. I've been dabbling with Folligen for a while, and my o my does that sh*t turn bright lime green when it hit the xandrox 15! I did get the impression that the folligen, or my usual am crew cu peps weren't absorbing very well through the Xandrox layer. And, it did feel very strange and was messy to have liquids of two different viscosities sitting on your scalp. The spironolactone 5% cream was more compatible with it, but it seemed to take on a grainyness that was not apparent when applying the spironolactone to minoxidil.

Thank you Gardener!

I think I will try xandrox 15 as i have been using regular rogaine so far and its greasyness has not been such pain in the *** for me.

I will use it in the evening and will switch to lees minoxidil 5% in the mornings in order that I can apply couvre soon.

I hope I will see some regrowth soon.

...add 5-15ml 80:20 DMSO/Aloe + 3000mg MSM + 1500mg L-arginine to your minoxidil and what do you know, you've got yourself a brew from down under - "g'day mate, throw another shrimp on the barbie!"

Solid review, I agree completely. I too have been using the Xandrox 15 for 5 months but followed with a spironolactone Cream application. The stickiness does not bother me since I apply at night and put spironolactone on top anyway. My left temple is growing back perfect and right temple began to shed 4 months ago, so I am in fact hoping or praying for a right T regrowth over the next 2 MONTHS when it CYCLES BACK. Looks like I have a few "baby black hairs" that are growing back but the true result will reveal itself by this April 05'. If they sprout thick like the left I will be thrilled. I will keep things posted if there are further results.

$88 for 125ml. That works out to 70c per day, or $21 per month. But, keep in mind that this is a once daily application and you still need to buy normal minoxidil to use for that second app.

For that app, I also use Dr Lee's minoxidil which goes for $16 for 60ml... considering that you would use only 1ml per day under a xandrox regimen, the total cost of the xandrox regimen (1ml xandrox daily and 1ml minoxidil daily) is $28 per month.

Damn - we spend alot of money on just a 'chance' at regrowing hair.

Anyway - slightly off topic question to you, gardener.

I tried asking this is in my own thread but it got moved to another forum and basically lost.

Can you tell me more about the regrowth process of minoxidil that you touched upon earlier. I ask because i'm finishing up my second bottle of kirkland 5% and am seeing signs of some strong results. The applied area is showing lots of pigmented dark hair growing. If it all continues to grow to 'costmetic' length then i'll about classify minoxidil as a miracle drug.

You seemed to suggest though that the initial growth is misleading and this isn't the effect i'm going to get. Could you elaborate on the minoxidil regrowth process so I know more of what to expect as I move into the third month. Thanks.

I've been using Xandrox 15 for a couple of months as well and have had the hair sprouts at the temples, as well as an overall shed. I guess it *is* the Xandrox that's doing it. Maybe. Probably. Hopefully.

Wouldnt it be advantageous(though unknown territory) to apply xandrox 15% twice a day? and drop the 5%---Dr. lee seems to state that shedding is for the most part either rare or unnoticeable/small. :freaked2: I am totally new so forgive the ignorance.

tempting though, I bought some and I wanna go all the way kinda thing. I havent taken minoxidil in like 10 yrs when it came out. You know always seem to say more is Not better then it turns out to be better. Do you think it is a physiological danger ie rapid hrt beat er? I wonder if I should by some 5% for mornin and use this 15% at night
