Hi guys, I am a brand new member, but I have been researching and reading the forums for the past week or so.

I am turning 20 in May, and I would estimate I'm a Norwood 2 I have been noticing in the past half year that I am shedding hair. I just recently started shedding about 5-10 hairs while applying hair product. ( i use wax so I guess that doesn't help too much since it can pull hairs out) My hairline has receded a bit, but it seems to suite my head shape.

Now My question, I have done a lot of research but I just see mixed opinions and results everywhere. I am not sure of which treatment I should start with, Currently I would be happy with just preventing any more shedding. What would be the best, or I guess possible treatments for this. Eventually if the prevention doesn't work i would consider using some regrowth product.

Now I'm sure this isn't a temporary shedding type problem, My dad's genetics are to blame...lol His Hair is pretty friggin bad but he is also nearly 50 years old. I know what will become of my hair, that is why I am trying to take steps as soon as possible.

Thank You all for your advice and continued help!

Jocksterx :

From the sounds of it, your hair is in good shape and you've caught it early.

I think the right thing for you to do (if you're sure you're losing hair) is to go on finasteride. If you haven't read this already; it's a pill you take daily to inhibit the hormone DHT. This hormone is generally thought to be responsible for the decaying of male hair leading to male pattern baldness (male pattern baldness).

The recommended dose is 1mg finasteride a day.

Finasteride will stop or considerably slow-down your hair loss and in some cases will help regrow.

You can get a prescription from your doctor for Propecia (a commercial name for finasteride). It's quite expensive for some people, so what you can do is buy something like Proscar (which is cheaper, but 5 mg finasteride instead of 1mg) and then cut the pill into 1/4 or 1/5.

I personally just buy Propecia.

I should warn you that there are potential side effects. A few people have experienced "weaker" erections, lack of concentration, lowered sex drive, "watery" semen and an aching in the testicles. From what I've read these side effects generally subside after a couple of weeks. Some people also report a shedding of hair (don't worry it grows back even stronger!) but the time periods reported are often extremely inconsistent which makes me pretty skeptical about this.

I have been on Propecia for nearly 3 months and have experienced no side effects except for achy balls for a few days near the beginning of my treatment.

You will read a lot of scare stories on here from a lot of desperate people but try not to be put-off. These people represent the smallest minority!

Good luck with your treatments whatever you decide, just ask if you have any other questions!

:)

Awesome Thanks for the Fast responses!

I was considering the finasteride/Propecia, but like you said the scare stories started putting me off a bit. I also just read about MSM supplements, and ordered those along with vitamin C and Bioflavids to help absorbtion. From what I have seen most people grew thicker hair and a bit faster the usual. Im not worried about the increased Body hair effect, since I Nair it all already :D
Sometimes I wish I could just redirect all my body hair to my head, instead of wasting it all down the drain hahah

Thanks guys, I'll keep you updated with everything and I'll start taking pictures too when I get the pills.

Thanks :)

One more question though, Are there safe places I can order Proscar ( is sais to be cheaper as far as I understand it) online without a prescription or should I go get a prescription?
