Hello,
Iwould be very grateful for your opinions and advice on my hair loss that iscausing me a great deal of stress and sadness.
BACKGROUND
· Iam a 47 year old male. My hair started to mildly recede when I was about 30years old. For reference my fathers hair almost totally receded by the age of30. At the onset of hair loss I started using minoxidil and it was verysuccessful at controlling the receding hair line with hardly any further hairloss until about 2 years ago. My hair loss and receding hairline then startedto speed up rapidly and noticeably.
· Sowhat changed 2 years ago? I started to go through a very stressful period (thatcontinues to date) although note that I have previously had similar levels ofstress in the past 17 years. I also started smoking (again) but note I didsmoke previously but had stopped for 12 years prior to 2 years ago. I have nowstopped smoking about 4 months ago but have also been taking nicotine mints, 2milligrams about 10-15 a day on and off for about 12 months. I also started touse Toppix hair fibres to try and cover it up.
· Inthe last 6 months the receding hairline has increased even faster to the stage whereit is patently obvious to all that I am losing my hair and people havecommented on it. It is affecting my confidence, I don’t want to go out and feelvery sad. I am now using a bottle of toppix about once every 2 weeks in astupid attempt to hide it but this no longer works
· Thehair loss pattern is male pattern baldness receding and not clumps of hair falling out or hairloss in a random pattern.
QUESTIONS/ADVICE
1. Forme the most obvious reason for the exacerbation and speed of my hair loss isstress but as I said before I have had stress during the preceding 15 yearsbefore and it never caused further hair loss. I also thought that stress hairloss would not be in the pattern of male pattern baldness but more random?
2. Canstress related hair loss mimic male pattern baldness?
3. Couldthis just be male pattern baldness and nothing to do with stress etc.? but if so why has it beenunder control for 15 years and then when I am 45 gone crazy. Does thissometimes happen?
4. Isit possible (I mean scientifically) that the nicotine mints have caused this?
5. Couldthe excess use of hair fibres be speeding up my hair loss?
6. Isit possible the receding will stop or is it going all the way?
Iwould like to thank you all in advance for your opinions and advice you cangive me. I suppose what I am trying to do is find out if this is just plain oldMPB hairloss or if something else has brought it on. If it is something else Ican try and do something about it but if it is male pattern baldness I just accept or consider atransplant. It is not knowing what is causing it that is causing additionalanxiety.
Thanks
