I wanted to post that I've also started to change the way I massage my hairline/thinning spots. Before, when I started receding I used to rapidly massage oils and shampoo at the hairline and GLIDE over the scalp. I did this because I believed it would enhance " circulation ". I would do this in the shower, before bed, throughout the day. It never occurred to me that I could actually be making things worse? Apparently towel drying your hair is not good either. It can cause friction and weaken the hairs. I know genetics is the main cause.
Instead of gliding rapidly over the scalp with the fingertips, I do things differently. I instead place my fingertips in certain areas and move the scalp. Kind of like im loosening up the scalp and making it flexible. When I massage shampoo in, I glide GENTLY over the hairs. If I do any kind of gliding over the scalp, its with almost no pressure. Being as gentle and as careful as possible. Sometimes I watch ASMR barber videos and see these head massages they do. I cringe at them sometimes cause they're yanking and pulling at the hair and using various tools to really SCRUB down the scalp and it doesn't seem right to me. Last time I got my head buzzed at the barber he was SUPER rough with the buzzer and made for an uncomfortable experience. So, I now am very gentle. Its more of an experiment I suppose.
If anyone has any thoughts or comments let me know how you massage or what you think. It all comes down to genetics. People can most likely do whatever they want to their hair, if they don't have the male pattern baldness gene they wont lose any hair. I just feel like if you have the male pattern baldness gene, things can accelerate it.
