summary
- 21 years old
- have always had a bad hairline but hair was always thick so it didn't worry me
- over the past 2 years noticed that my hair seems to be getting thinner at the front
- my right temple has receded
- every time i run my hands through my hair i notice a few hairs come out
- every time i put strong holding hair wax / product in my hair lots of hairs get stuck to my hands.
- my hair looks really bad when i pull it back but as you can see it the first pic you cant notice it if i leave my hair long / down at the front.

What should i do?
I have a big forehead and ill look terrible if i shave :'(

Should i start using nizoral for now? Also what haircut can i get as one of my sides has receeded? I dont know what to tell the hairdresser
thanks

It's not bad at all. Although, get on prescribed Finasteride for a base level, so that no more falls out and/or slows extremely down. I've been using Finasteride for over a year, and I'm 28. I couldn't be more pleased with it. I've been using Nizoral for like, 9 years, sure it's a good supplemental but, you need the first line of defense FIRST.

thanks for the resposne
finasteride is another name for propecia right?
Am i too young to start taking it? What if it ruins my testosterone ?
Will using nizoral alone be worth it or is it pointless (for now)

I don't think that you are too young for propecia (finasteride is the name of the active ingredient in propecia). It will not ruin your testosterone. Propecia will block dihydrotestosterone (DHT), an active form of testosterone that is attacing your hair follicles that have genetical-based weaknesses for DHT. DHT is actually not a too important hormone in your body and you can live without it. There can still be side effects tough...

Talk to a dr/dermatologist about finasteride. That and rogaine (minoxidil) are really all that we have to stop hair loss/potentially regrow/thicken.

Just because you are ignorant, doesn't mean you can pass your ignorance to others. DHT is crucial for your body, crucial for your neuro system and neuro immune system. Blocking DHT is far from being a healthy option, whilst you may survive the short term side effects, you better cross your fingers for the long term effects that don't come on the label.

If finasteride was really so dangerous and DHT was really so important why would it be a approved drug then in most of the world?

The role of DHT in the body is very complicated and much is still unknown. It balances with estrogen among other things. http://thinksteroids.com/steroid-profiles/dht/

Our hairloss is pretty similar. Make a consultation with your dermatologist (preferably one that knows a thing or two about hair loss because not every dermatologist does) and get on finasteride. Eating healthy is great for your overall well being but isn't going to do anything for your hair loss.

Gary,

If you want to prove me something, show me literature, not a bodybuilding website promoting steroids. I can tell you now, you're wrong. DHT is crucial for your neuro system, I can tell you why if you're interested.
In order for pharma drugs to be approved, they need to have studies behind them that shows they are successful. If they cause side effects, they will still get approved! The side effects that you see on the label now, were not the same side effects that the label had when they launched it. People have to report the side effects to the regulatory agencies and the company has a moral duty to seek information about people that suffered these. Long term effects like damage to your neuro system are never going to be on the label in your and mine generation because despite the fact we do have some knowledge in neuroscience, we are not in a position to 100% scientifically prove a medication is directly and solely associated with, say...dementia, brain tumours, epilepsy! You can read plenty of studies from highly qualified scientists that wrote about the role of DHT in your brain response to post stroke for example or to loss of memory and dementia, just like you can read scientific studies that link bacon and processed meat to cancer but no regulatory agency can enforce the need for label awareness if there's no concrete evidence with studies in humans. Get it? You'll hear on the radio "scientists have linked this to that and bla bla bla" but companies will keep profiting until the bureaucratic world we live in forces them to cease production.

What you can do is educate yourself and then decide whats best for you.

I get it. DHT is important for the human body. But most of the people taking Finasteride respond well to the dht inhibition. Hell even dutasteride seems as safe as Finasteride.
5 alpha reductases are of two types- 1 and 2. Type 1 is present predominantly in the liver, brain tissues, prostat, sebaceous glands and stuff.
Type 2 - is predominantly located in skin tissues like the hair follicle. Finasteride only inhibits type2. If it dosent act on type 1 which is present in the brain tissue how is it gonna affect the neurological functioning of the body. Take the fear mongering to propecia help and don't come back.
Seriously guys like these are the reason why these kids are so afraid to even pop the pill for the first time. Long term studies have confirmed the safety of Finasteride.

Side effects of aspirin -

Oh ****, that's right. Side effects of aspirin seem to be twice in number to those of Finasteride. But still aspirin is probably the safest and the most used drug nowadays. Side effects for all drugs are there. Dosent mean they don't have therapeutic uses.
Just waiting for someone to come and say 'Aspirin ruined my life.'

so what should i do in the mean time before i consider taking finasteride?

please help

There is only one thing you can do before you take Finasteride- Wait and keep losing hair.
There is minoxidil but that's just a temporary fix. Finasteride is the safest and the Best bet to save your hair. Besides, you are 21. That's more than enough. I am 18 and on the drug with no sides at all.
Go to a dermatologist, get a prescription and pop the pill 1mg. If you get sides for more than two weeks which usually subside after that, lower the dosage.
Dude, if the thought of going bald scares you, the side effects shouldn't be a bother. Chill and get on it. Pop the pill and just go on with your life. Don't be paranoid about getting sides and you will be good.

Just pop a pill for everything now.
Those fear mongers that you mentioned is due to the pill popping, that docent belong in our system.
And "Dude" your explanation is double standard, since you are explaining that the stupid drug is safe and also mentioning to deal with the side effects.

Are you here because did you get some psychological side effects or did the drug didn't work for you?
Millions and millions of people take this drug safely everyday. That is because they did pop the pill. Unless you do that you won't know if it is working for you or not. And I never said that there are no people with side effects.
Bro go to propecia help or mypropecisideeffects.com and spread your bull**** there.

Okay look man, if you are saying you solved your hair loss problems without drugs, then it might have been something other than male pattern baldness. There is no getting rid of male pattern baldness without drugs. And if u claim to have solved male pattern baldness without drugs then I'd say you are full of crap.

People here suffer from male pattern baldness. And it's probably the worst thing to happen to you when you are young. It sucks okay?
I myself have been suffering for the last two years. I am just another ordinary kid who studies in a college and am taking this drug without side effects and I have seen many people, trust me many people using this drug without sides. It is fear mongers who have never used this drugs before sit back and keep calling to have solved your problems without any drugs. Straight up BULL****.

I just wanna help a fellow baldy and not advertise for some company. Hell, I am still 18, b**ch. If you have used the drug and got 'actual' sides which is of course very rare, then I am sorry for you. But if u haven't taken Finasteride yet and are simply scaring everyone here, then you should actually go get a life.

Why are you using drugs for a simplistisk thing like hair loss?
It´s not a decease, and your help to others is by using Finasteride for impotence or what?

If losing hair is simple to you, then maybe you don't belong on this forum. It's good that you don't care about your hair. Idk why u are browsing forums if you aren't concerned.
BTW bro, did u take Finasteride.
