Hi guys, Just a few questions and some advice please if you don't mind: I've nearly finished my 11 months of treatment with Propecia 1mg (daily) and Minoxidil 5% with Azealic Acid (Daily) I'm only 20 years old and I'm probably a Norwood 3 to a 3.5. I suppose you can say I have had good results because my hair loss has stopped which is great! But cosmetically it looks similar to when I started and not much new regrowth apart from thickening. My bad areas are temples which have receded and very thin frontal hair and thinning crown. It's caused me a lot of problems like more anxiety and lack of confidence because I feel really uncomfortable by it. Someone told me that lifting weights can effect my progress? I mean I do a 45 minute workout with sort of heavyish dumbells 3 times a week? I also train for Tennis and soccer once a week too. My diet is really good, I eat lots of natural proteins which is good for hair right? Dairy, Vitmanins, Carbs just a balanced healthy diet! Surely lifting dumbbells 3 times a week will not stop me from getting regrowth? I also read on a few forums about masturbation? I've cut to only doing it once a week to. I really don't know what to do from here. I mean my hair is definitely bad enough to have a transplant but I'm sure they would just turn me away because of my age! Sorry about the dumb myth questions I just impossible to know what to believe as all sorts gets said nowadays! Do you know of any natural oils or products that I could add to get regrowth? Also is it ok for me to keep doing my workout circuits 3 times a week? I'm athletic but quite a slim guy so I was just looking to tone up and bulk a little but if this is making my hair not progress then.. I may stop! :hmmm:. I know you guys will probably want some pics so I'll try and fix some up soon!. Thanks for your help.

Working out/eating will have a minimal effect on hair if anything and how you eat or exercise should not be due to some misconception that your hair depends on doing those things a certain way. Working out increasing hairloss and not masturbating is all. Ignore it.

Propecia/finasteride results peak at around 2 years for most people so you can still see some regrowth. You are not "nearly finished" with treatment, it is a life time commitment and you can never stop your treatments or all your hair will fall out again. You can consider a hair transplant but probably only for the crown, if you get one for the hair line at some point the hair behind your transplant may fall out and you will be left with an unnatural intact hair line.

Keep doing what you are doing. If if is really bothering you, you can consider switching from Propecia to Avodart/Dutasteride but most people notice no difference from such a switch as Dutasteride is only better by a small margin.

Thanks for your reply :). Yeah I agree with you I think! Yeah I was thinking about a hair transplant but maybe more hair will fall out and it will look stupid. After the year mark I was planning cut down Propecia to once every 2 days? I guess your right though I need to keep been more patient. Thank again mate!

And what's the point in having a transplant at the crown if hairline is bad?
Crown is less important than hairline. Hairline frames your face, when someone talks to you he sees the hairline not the crown, and in pictures you will appear with the hairline, not the crown.
Even if the hair falls behind, having some hairline to frame your face will not do anything wrong, i think.

I agree with your assessment. I would have felt far less conscientious had my loss been confined to my crown rather than temples and front line. Still dreadful all the same, but at least I could bear myself less embarrassment at seeing my own startling reflection. I hardly recognize myself anymore.:freaked:

Do not cut down propecia/finasteride to once every two days. There is absolutely no reason to do this, except if you are very low on cash. It may effect the effectiveness of the medication and there will be no possible benefits besides the cost as mentioned

Non-balding people do not even notice hair loss until your crown starts to thin or you are nw3 going on nw4. Only someone with hair loss recognizes others' balding to that extent. This is why filling in the crown may be an option.

I personally have like a nw1.25 hair line but a pretty bad crown and yes it is embarrassing at a young age at least

Really? I did not know that. I figured what I saw around the 1.5 year mark would be as good as it would get. Good to hear.

I can agree. When you have almost good hairline, and bad crown, it is worth having hair transplant at the crown.
But when hairline is not good, the priority would be hairline i think.
Anyway, if you don't look into maintaining existing hair(finasteride, etc) the transplant is not a good option.
Oh, and take a look at various hair transplant results at the crown, even from top doctors. They are not as succesful as frontal transplants, because at the crown hair grows in many directions(whirls, etc), and you need very many grafts to restore it strong.

Thanks for all your replies everyone! I have a rubbish hairline for my age (20) Like a norwood 3 - 3.5 but where the temples has receded their is quite a bit of fuzzy hair there but 11 months in to my treatment has not seem to do a lot those areas :( The most positive result so far has been the crown which is still noticeable but definitely a better thickness of hairs there :). I'm going to visit my doctor next week and ask about what he thinks of me getting a hair transplant for my frontal area. I've got University soon and it's so nerve racking that the majority will have no hair loss and you go and your like balding :/
