Hi,

As you can see in the images my hair loss is severe. I can't bear losing my hair. I've been using hair fibres to cover it up. It's got to the point I'm using a lot and it gets quite messy. Activities are sh*t to do. What can I do?

Wow, you are lucky, your beard looks exactly like hair on the head, so you don't have to worry about lack of donor hairs...
You are even luckier, because your hairline and temples are still intact. Big 3 should make wonders for you.

I need to try something. I'm travelling next year a lot. I need my hair. My confidence will plummet, like, a lot.

Big 3 is finasteride, minoxidil 5% and nizoral. Finasteride is a drug (DHT-inhibitor), which blocks dihydrotestosterone—primary cause of male pattern baldness in genetically prone males. Minoxidil is a growth agent for topical use. Nizoral is antiinflammatory and antifungal shampoo which has some mild DHT-inhibitory property.

Also there is a stronger analogue of finasteride—dutasteride. It's 60-fold more potent than finasteride and works much faster.

Are you from the UK? Where can I buy these? I'm at the point I'd pay anything tbh. I should have really looked into this sooner instead of feeling sorry for myself.

No, I am not from the UK. You can buy finasteride/dutasteride from online pharmacies, like AllDayChemist, InhousePharmacy, etc, if you don't plan go to the doctor for prescription. I don't know where it's cheaper, though. Minoxidil and Nizoral 2% should be available without prescription, I think.

Yes, the sooner you start, the better. If your hair loss is recent, like 5-7 years, you have high chances for full restoration. Good luck!

Your hair loss isn't severe; it's mild. Mine is severe (check my thread and please don't feel bad for me; I don't need people to feel sorry for me, I deal with life the best I can).

But yeah, you basically have 2 options that I see right now:
1) Get on the "big 3" as they call them...but keep in mind that will likely be for the rest of your life if you don't want to lose any more hair.
2) Don't give a crap and let it keep disappearing until you just shave your head or opt for a transplant.
Your choice.

This big three, will it regrow my hair or just stop further loss? Or hopefully, both?

I recommend Dutasteride. It is essentially a stronger version of Finasteride/Propecia. I have been using Dutasteride for over three years, and it has completely stopped my hair loss and given me significant regrowth. I get mine from AllDayChemist. It is more affordable there than anywhere else online that I know of. Minoxidil/Rogaine and Nizoral/Ketoconazole may help a little bit to combat hair loss, but they are far less effective than Finasteride or Dutasteride.

at 22 years old and that amount of hair loss, you definitely need to get on Dutasteride. It is the strongest available treatment that we currently have.

Don't listen people that talk without any knowledge .
Try to go the topical route first, for example minoxidil lotion and then ketoconazole cream, give it 6 month at least, to compare the "before and after ", every night, and then you will see how things get better.
Dutasteride will give you side effects, you can not inhibit more than 90 % of your main androgen in your body and expect to not cause a big problem in long term .

Minoxidil (topical) and Propecia (oral) mainly will just stop future hair loss. Many patients have seen a little regrowth after many months, but I've never seen a case where complete regrowth to perfection was achieved by these 2 common hair loss treatments alone. It's almost like the only way to maintain a full head of hair is to start using them before you actually begin to lose any hair, which nobody does, so it's tricky. Maybe everybody should just go on them starting at age 20. (just kidding, can't actually do that).

In my case, I am very well informed about hair loss treatments. I've been using these forums for many years. Minoxidil and ketoconazole on their own will not be enough over the long-term. If this guy wants to give himself a realistic chance of successfully treating his hair loss, he will need to take an oral 5-ar inhibitor despite the potential side-effects.

I think Propecia and especially Dutasteride can give a lot of regrowth for some guys. I personally have had excellent results from Dutasteride with significant regrowth. There was a Korean study done a few years ago by Glaxo-Smith Kline, in which over 700 Korean men with male-pattern baldness were given 0.5mg Dutasteride daily for a four year period. At the end of the four year study, 78.6% of the men had more hair than they had had before the study began, 20.8% had the same amount of hair, and only 0.6% had less hair. This study highlights just how effective Dutasteride is as a hair loss treatment. Here is a link to the study: https://www.gsk-clinicalstudyregister.com/files2/9aa74623-1d92-4a80-8634-5a3231c37d45
