male pattern baldness is genetic.

male pattern baldness had to start somwhere...someone down the genetic line was the first to go bald.

I agree. But first off, I'm finding it very misleading when you post on these forums that diet is going to have a significant affect on Androgenetic Alopecia to those who have already experienced their hair loss.

The results for Propecia in clinical trials provide astounding evidence that DHT is the main culprit. It might not be the only problem, but like I've said before, People regrew hair on a drug that only removes 38% of DHT from the scalp. I would guess that if you were able to remove 90% of DHT, you would effectively beat male pattern baldness.

While I agree with the basic idea behind your post, I think the above claim is, at best, minimally supported.

Was meant to be a joke that sparked some thought. However, I do agree with you in the sense that countries with unhealthy diets have a larger incidence of Androgenetic Alopecia. But you do have to realize that Caucasians with balding genes had sex with Asians at some point.

timbo...do you know that when estradiol binds with SHBG, it mimics DHT...did you know that?

How are you coming with that homework assignment I gave you in a previous post (PROVING that that happens not just in prostate cells, but also in hair follicle cells)? Any progress on that, or are you just going to keep repeating that claim over and over like a parrot? :)

Currently, there are no studies (that I can find) that show this in the scalp or sebaceous glands, but who's looking. Most scientists think that DHT causes hairloss just like they use to think that DHT causes prostate enlargement. I believe that in the coming years research will point to estradiol as the cause of baldness, just like research has shown that estradiol is the cause of prostate enlargement...until then, men will have to keep emasculating themselves with anti-androgens.

but thing is I mean, if all this was true then wouldn't all the success stories be with beta-sitosterol and not finasteride? People seem to have less success with b-s don't they? I mean this is just through looking at the success stories section, I don't know for sure.

Evidently not YOU, since you can apparently now see the handwriting on the wall! :)

LOL!!! Isn't it just SOOOO damned annoying for you that there are studies showing that estrogen STIMULATES the growth of balding scalp hair follicles? Do you find it hard to sleep at night, knowing that the medical literature so totally contradicts what you say about estrogen and hair loss? :)

To be fair though Bryan I don't think he is referring to just estrogen as such, he is talking about it once bound to SHBG. And THEN he's saying it's as bad as DHT for the follicles. Is that right misterE?

And yet he ADMITS that he can't find any evidence showing that that happens in hair follicles.

He's just spouting all this ridiculous anti-estrogen crap because he's bound and determined to implicate estrogen, scientific evidence be damned. He's not an honest person and CERTAINLY not a smart one, and I recommend that you not pay any attention to what he says.

Yes, that is right. SHBG is misunderstood by most people, most people think that SHBG grabs ahold of homones and renders them useless, which is nonsense. SHBG grabs ahold of hormones and binds them to the RSHBG (sex hormone binding globulin receptor) located in various tissues. Currently there is not much research on SHBG, but there are some interesting articles about the SHBG-receptor found here: http://books.google.com/books?q=RSHBG or here: http://books.google.com/books?q=SHBGR&btnG=Search+Books

I do believe that estrogen is bad for the hair, heart, prostate, and manhood. 16-hydroxyestrogen and estradiol are the two I point my finger at, not DHT; which is what makes you a man and is absolutely vital for virility and sexual functioning.

Brayn can show me all the studies he wants showing that estrogen is good for the scalp in vitro. Which is a technical term for in a test tube. I want to see some studies showing that 16-hydroxyestrogen and estradiol (very potent estrogens) stimulate human head hair growth in vivo; in the living body.

But I _have_ done that, don't you remember? I showed you a sampling of studies done by European doctors (I think they were mostly German) in which they treated their balding patients successfully with various versions of topical estrogen. Are you really claiming not to remember that, or are you developing a kind of "selective amnesia" for scientific evidence that doesn't fit your ridiculous theories? :)

You say topical... not systematic... If ketoconazole was systematic ,I would not be a strong advocate of ketoconalole!

If you took ketoconazole systematically, you would experience erectile dysfunction, low confidence, low sexual desire, impotence, shyness, and a decreased in manliness, virility, and sexual performance; all symptoms of estrogen!

Yet when you take ketoconazole topically you displace DHT and estradiol from the scalp.

Show me a study that shows 16-hydroxyestrogen and estradiol systematically promotes hair growth in vivo. Androgen's are vital for sexual performance and down right manliness. If you take DHT away, you decrease your sexual performance, confidence, and desire. Less testosterone means less muscle mass and less insulin sensitivity!

Not misterE, I tried Keto oral (50mg) for 1 month and not have side effect that you spoke of, I only had problems with the sex when I started using Flutamide Topic

I just got through telling you in the previously post that I've ALREADY given you examples of the successful use of topical estrogen by German doctors in balding patients. The problem is that you don't listen to what other people tell you.

I believe that TOPIC estrogen is good for your hair, but ORAL is a danger, I believe that estrogen is bad for the man, and is one of the causes of hair loss

Why would estrogen be good for hair topically, but bad for hair systemically? Please explain.

Aren't we back to the rather controversial SHBG theory here? :)

I don't see any obvious connection. I hope he replies to my question.

You're being very vague. What do you mean by diet? A diet of what? If you ate nothing but soy, pomegranate, and pueraria mirifica, I'm sure you would regrow a lot of hair that was loss from male pattern baldness.
See, thats what I'm talking about ..where are these people getting regrowth that are on diets of soy, pomegranate, and pueraria mirifica? On what basis are you sure there'd be regrowth?

If you like, you can check out a couple of forums in the New treatments, studies, discoveries section labeled, 'The "Big Three", Their Correlated Diseases, and Natures Cure.
