31 now. Hair has been fairly stable at NW2 for pretty much as long as I can remember; since at least my teens. Hair type is very fine, and always has been.
Up until 6 months ago, I never really considered hair loss, as I don't really have any full baldness in any of my relatives on either side, but I noticed some stray hairs maybe a 1/4-3/8 of an inch below my hairline. At first I shrugged it off as "new" hair development, but I quickly realized that it was thinning/receding in this area, which is the very front middle of my hairline.
I actually like the appearance of the temple recession, but this thinning in the front middle is making it very difficult to style my hair how I would like, as it become glaringly obvious. I still have hair in this area, but it is wispy and thin, interspersed with normal hairs sporadically, so I'm tempted to give Finasteride a whirl and see if it can help.
Not super scared of side effects, as I've previously taken Accutane, which also inhibits 5AR, as I understand it.
My only concern is, I guess from a karmic perspective, in that the hair gods will punish me for taking drastic measures for relatively minor and normal hairloss for my age, leaving me one of the poor sods whose hair loss is greatly accelerated as a result of taking the drug.
Not sure how much it will help as I would guess that I already have fairly low androgen sensitivity (no aggressive balding, minimal body hair), or I have low DHT altogether, although I have been previously tested and both DHT/T came back "normal" for my age range.
Worth a shot? Is there anyone else in a similar boat who went ahead with it?
