Yes, this is very common. I took finasteride for about a year, a few years ago. I didn't get any definite head hair growth, but I lost like 70% of my abdominal and chest hair. The abdominal hair hasn't grown back but very slightly. The chest hair has grown back fully.

For a lot of MENA guys this is a potentially good side effect. I have subtle light brown upper body hair, and effectively invisible blond hair on my arms. So...I don't know, I wasn't crazy about the bodyhair loss, but it wasn't a deal breaker. Rather, I stopped taking finasteride because it clearly wasn't gonna obviate surgery while it was clearly affecting my masculine essence in subtle ways. I am not a big fan of pharmaceuticals across the board, and must have slam dunk results to use any of them, including something like minoxidil.

Sadly, I haven't noticed finasteride slowing down my facial hair growth. I know people with 5AR deficiency from birth have underdeveloped facial hair, but I don't think suppressing 5AR as an adult usually makes much difference.

what side effects did you have from finasteride?
and I'm more specifically talking about beard loss, not body hair loss, in fact I'd be HAPPY to lose body hair since I am hairy as a bear which I hate about myself. but I love that I have decent beard and don't want to lose that.

In theory it should. Some people report that effect. I sure wish dutasteride would thin out my body hair, but no such luck.

I'd love to lose my body hair, but I'm talking about beard. that I don't want to lose a single hair of.

Beard and body hair go hand in hand. They both are androgen dependent. I have read many reports from people who had their beards thin out. Whether or not they were just imagining it who knows.

if I take finasteride and I lose my beard and it never recovers I'd legit kill myself. I look ridiculous without a stubble. I could never rock a shaved face.

Mine hasn't changed. If it did thin out you could always use minoxidil on it to counteract that. People who could never grow beards use minoxidil to grow thick beards.

I'm probably never gonna use minoxidil because it can f*** up your skin for good and I wouldn't want to risk that, anything that could affect my face is x1000 worse than internal issues (like ed, libido etcc) in my book.
last thing I want is black circles around the eyes or face skin getting fucked up.

Of course, but I want my hair back.

I'm microneedling my face every two months, taking collagen supplements, and using retin-a and hyaluronic acid to mitigate the effects.

btw why are you on duta and not finasteride?

Yes it can. On dutasteride, i lost 30~35% of my beard density in ~6 or 7 months in. Not only that, but the hairs are blonde which contribute to loss of density.

It had a more decreasing effect on my body hair though.

I've been hoping for this, but not seeing it yet. It's encouraging to see others reporting it.
Some get reduced hairs, some don't. But i think it's safe to say that any new body hairs that were supposed to grow later on, would be stunned by dutasteride. If only dutasteride didn't thin my facial hairs tho, i now need a new facial style.

Preventing any new body hair is a victory in itself, but I would trade places with you in a second. I can't grow a beard anymore anyways because there's too much gray in it now so it's fine with me if I lose that too.
Give it time buddy. It's just like regrowing scalp hair. It may take a year or 2 for it to be affected. Also, i think age plays a big role here. I started dutasteride at 19, so my body/facial hair was still pretty recent (not really, but you get what i mean).

Did your beard thin out 30% before adding cypro? How is your hair on top doing?
Yep. What's weird, dutasteride caused me an upregulation of sort (on the year i was on it), it increased my sebum significantly, and i got the worst forms of acne in my life (cystic acne/nodular). Though, it had a reverse effect on my body/facial hair. It was pretty weird.

Cypro has been nothing short of amazing. Sebum is reduced significantly, no more acne causing dutasteride, scalp acne disappeared entirely, hair is very healthy and doesn't get infested with oil even after 3 days of no showering. Vellus hairs in my hairline are getting longer slowly, but i don't expect major regrowth on cypro, for that i'll be adding E.

You are living dangerously. No one can say you aren't willing to do anything for hair.
I just want hair. I am taking precautions but when you start balding at 15, your future calls for a Norwood 7 at 26 at best. 5ARIs are not enough for aggressive balders. I am glad though that i don't care about women or sex that much. If i was, i might even be hesitant to start finasteride lmao.

Don't know about body hair. But its definitely made my head hair 100X worse. Been on finasteride 9 months now and my hair looks worse than ever. Thin, lighter and shedding sh*t loads every day

What dosage of retin-a and HA are you using?

DISCLAIMER:
This post doesn’t serve a purpose of demonizing finasteride. Everything described below are my personal experiences and side effects. It’s good to hear that people can maintain their male pattern baldness without severe sides using fina, unfortunately I’m not one of them.

Yes, it absolutely can.
Although I’m pretty sure that for some people it won’t be the case, since everyone responds differently.

I’m not really hairy to begin with, but i had significant hair growth on my legs. Had mustache and hairs on the cheeks were filling in and turning terminal. But when i was on fina, hair on my legs became less darker and very fine, they stopped curling as well. My mustache became weaker, all the hairs remained and but got way thinner.

Transitioning hair on the cheeks became vellus again.

Finasteride affected my mental health and masculinity. This includes:
1. Body/facial hair growth reduction.
2. Redistribution of fat in body. (I’m around 135lbs with height of 5”8 always had lean body and slim complexion, while on fina gained about 7-10 pounds and started looking way chubbier including my face too).
3. Brain fog (Difficulties with concentration, memory, slurred speech).
4. Neck and back of the head stiffness.
5. I think it reinforced my depression and anxiety.
6. Muscle weakness, muscle reduction.
7. Loss of intensity of orgasm, reduced and watery ejaculate, less strong erections, difficulty reaching orgasm. Occasional scrotum aches.
8. This one is weird, but i felt less resistance when urinating and it’s unpleasant feeling. I think you urinate a little more frequently too.

Most of the sides have gradually resolved, but certain sexual side effects are less severe yet still persistent close to 1,5 years after discontinuation.
