If you have Telogen Effluvium and male pattern baldness together then the logical answer is yes, your hair will fall out much faster. It won’t accelerate the actual male pattern baldness process but it would certainly give the impression to others that you are losing hair like no tomorrow. But the Telogen Effluvium affected hair should grow back only to be slowly attacked by DHT over time...
Well, I hope you are right about this. If I have Telogen Effluvium I have Telogen Effluvium and male pattern baldness, because I definitely have male pattern baldness. My hairline has receeded hugely since mid Dec. and prior to that I had no visible signs of hairloss. The thing that freaks me out is that my shedding and recession pretty much coincided. I interpret that to mean that I either have aggressive male pattern baldness with recession of hairline and crown and diffuse thinning all over, or I have male pattern baldness recession of hairline and crown and Telogen Effluvium. I wouldn't even be considering Telogen Effluvium except that my life took a devastating blow on Sept.2 2004, roughly 3 months before I noticed shedding for the first time and then I was diagnosed with Telogen Effluvium by a Derm. I wouldn't be considering male pattern baldness except that my recession in front is so severe. So it's likely that I have both and that the Telogen Effluvium has affected the male pattern baldness areas more than other areas on my head.

Think i might just shave it a grade 2 or something. And then see if the regrowth has made any impact because at the moment my hair is longish and its not benefiting the regrowth. Then i will have a bit more of a true reflection of what i have lost and what is growing back. And then after a while if their isnt any sign of improvment then i will consider Propecia. As i dont want to be too hasty without giving it a chance to recover by itself.

Yeah, I have hairs in the front that I have been wathching for months and they really are still too short to actually be helping fill in. It is easy to see why people are always saying you have to be patient.

Same here i have a fair few sprouting up in the hair margins which are slowly growing but at the moment they arent really doing much in the way of filling in as the longer hair is covering them up and it will take ages for them to grow to blend in with the rest of my hair. :)

Telogen Effluvium does exacerbate male pattern baldness, and will have permanent ramifications. when the inciting factor ends your male pattern baldness affected hair will grow back, but it will grow back miniaturized to varying degrees. If you think your going through Telogen Effluvium and have male pattern baldness GET ON finasteride or a topical to counter dht. if you are on this during the Telogen Effluvium then your male pattern baldness affected hair should be protected and recover when the Telogen Effluvium ends. This is assuming that your a responder to finasteride.

if you want more info on this there was a thread a couple months ago i posted on or started where i put up info and links to things about Telogen Effluvium.

rapid frontal, i'm going through a similar situation as you. in some previous posts i suggested you might consider anti dep., which you decided wasn't the right choice for you which I respect. i believe you cited as one of the factors influencing your decision to be that you were over the worst of your "inciting event". I may be being presumptuous but ,one thing you might want to consider is that while you may be over the traumatic event that caused you to fall this far you seem to still be in great stress and possibly agony over your hair situation. what i'm saying is that to alleviate a Telogen Effluvium you have to address the cause which for you (and me) is depression/stress. while you've done that i think you still may be depressed and under greater than normal stress. putting yourself in a state w/ as little of that as possible would be giving yourself the best chance to recover from Telogen Effluvium the soonest. If i've been offbase w/ any of your situation than i apologise in advance, it's just that i think i identify w/ what your going through and am basically giving you the advice i wish i'd thought of when this started 7 months ago. good luck.

before taking any antidepressant if i was you i would consider conigtive behavioral therapy. i'm not stopping anyone from taking antidepressant if that's what ya feel, but if i had the chance 2 years ago to take it or not take it, i would have never commit that mistake again. if you want to know about it just do your research on it and if you feel is worth it, then take it.
