Hm will not kill the propecia/tropical market.
Because there will be a lot of young people whos till cant affords a hair transplant+HM combo till they save up enough. So during this time propecia/tropical mrket will still rake in the moola. One importatn factor is that propecia/tropical approach is not 100% effiecient and does not work for everyone.

"Moreover, researchers have discovered that some follicle cells do more than regenerate. They give off chemical signals. Nearby follicle cells -- which have shrunk during the aging process -- respond to these signals by regenerating and once again making healthy hair"

That sounds interesting....

this theory is shrouded in doubt partly because it had not been discussed much over the years.

this has to be too good to be true....

this would be the biggest medical breakthrough in decades....

at the risk of someone who has a say in the price of this procedure seeing this....it would really be priceless. no amount of money can compare to the sanity and confidence youd have.

can you imagine seeing people who were bald for 20-30 years having full heads of hair again?

I disagree. I think it will even trump penicillin.

your right, organ transplantation, open heart surgey, brain surgery, v****, the thousands of drugs developed to combat actual life threatening conditions, and of course gene therapy on the horizon there, ALL THIS pales in comparison to growing hair back on men who probably arent all that attractive even with hair.

though it'd would be a lie if i said i wouldnt let the HM people stick their knobbly cheese peni in my nose if they said it would grow my hair back.

If your sides/back are thinning, then HM won't mean anything, right?

what that does have to do with anything, just get an HM on front and focus on there and maybe u can get HM on those areas too

If HM uses the hair from the sides and back, then if you're thinning everywhere wouldn't that make HM obsolete?

as long as there are live hairs somewhere on the head i think that will be used for HM

I think the point that Chrisknight made was that if you're going thin in the areas of your scalp that are usually resistant to DHT, you might end up "cloning" hair that is NOT resistant. In other words: You would create hair that will fall out.

By the way: I think that a lot of guys on this forum are over-optimistic when it comes to the prospects of HM. True, it has been said that something will come out in 2009/2010, but in a recent interview Ken Washink (the guy who is developing HM at Aderans Research Institute) pointed out that the first generations of HM will not be as effective as everyone would like it to be. He said that it would mainly be used to add some density after a conventional hair transplant. He urged people to have a "reality check" on HM, and he said that you would not be able to get a full head of hair when you're completely bals (at least not with the first generation). He also said that the donor area would be as big as an inch.
Personally, I think that it wil be 10 to 20 years until HM truly works. (I hope I'm wrong.)

Yea, I think if you are born now by the time your 20 -25 you would have a good deal more options to keep your hair.

I hope HM comes out and is fantastic for people, I most probably wont get any benefit from it seeing as my donor area is going to thin to almost nothing like my fathers.

I wish i had a suitable head/face shape for the bald/shaved look, but alas, I tried it and loads of people told me not to do it again....dang.

Keep in mind that podcast is about a year old so the information doesn't completely reflect what's going on today. Lots has changed since then.
