Another one: http://intl-jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/c ... /70/4/1136

"No change was seen in LH, FSH, cortisol, or estradiol levels. Serum lipids, including total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein, and triglycerides were not affected by treatment. Results from part 2 again showed significant reduction in DHT at all doses. DHT levels returned to pretreatment values within 14 days of discontinuing treatment. Significant increases in T were observed only in the 1.0 mg group and only during the first 8 days of treatment. The T/DHT ratio increased with all doses and returned to baseline when drug was discontinued."

And yet another; it's done on hirsute women, however. But I believe the point is still relevant: http://intl-jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/c ... t/79/3/831

And I think Finasteride does affect allopregnanolone synthesis: otherwise reseachers wouldn't have proposed to treat alcoholism with Finasteride.

Perhaps this might shed some light into our little dilemma:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer ... t=Citation

"In finasteride-treated animals, hypothalamic and pituitary 5 alpha-reductase were significantly inhibited in young adult animals, whereas the activities were not altered in juvenile or peripubertal male rats. These data suggest that a different mechanism may regulate 5 alpha-reductase with the aging of the central nervous system and pituitary."

Nice. But this does not answer the question.

Baby steps, Bis, baby steps. The best researcher in the field, whose name I sent to you via PM, says she's never heard of CNS effects with finasteride at the 1 mg/day dose. Unless _proven_ otherwise, I think one should agree with her.

Of course she hasn't heard of these sides. I think if they occur they are likely to be revealed in epidemiological studies in 20 years.

really, its not so much different from all other kinds of medicine that enters the market; you can only test new medicine for so and so long - the long term effects and sideeffects become only known when used for a long time - by the public.
