Deathcab's Story (27/Receding Hairline/1%nizoral/5%minoxidil)

Hey Guys,
Ok, here is my story really quick and I would really appreciate some advice. I am a 27 year old male. I have male pattern baldness in the family and my hair has been a little thin from the start. Also, my hairline has always been a little high or it just might be my huge forehead. Who knows...

About 8 months ago I noticed my temples receding and that created a panic so I checked out the rest of my hairline. I could have just freaked myself out, but it looks like the rest of my hairline is receding also along with my temples. So I checked out my vertex and THOUGHT I felt thinning. Ive always been a NWD2, but I think Im headed toward NWD3.

I looked over this forum and decided to start on 2%nizoral (5.5months on it now), and 2 months later I got on the NIOXIN SYSTEM 2 (shampoo, conditioner, hair treatment, 3.5months on it now). The first 2 months on nizoral instantly filled in my vertex and thicked my hair, but I did shed alot. Sometimes the shed lasted a full month, but I was patient and gave it time. The NIOXIN thicked my hair also and I shed less on it. I have no inflammation, burn, or harshness of hair after using nizoral.

Even though the rest of my hair was affected by the treatment, I do not feel that my hairline was affected. I am currently stopping nizoral for 2 wks to see if that was the cause of my intense shedding. Any advice would be great guys. I was thinking of PROSCAR and see how that goes before I hit the minoxidil.

Re: Deathcab's Story (27/Receding Hairline/2%nizoral/Nioxin)

IMO you hair loss is not bad

looks like your crown is slightly thinning and you have a high semi-strong hairline

probably NW2 maybe 2.5

your temple "points" are also miniaturizing which what concerns me

i know a lot of people would tell you to just use finasteride for a while

IMO i suspect you will have a greater chance of recovering those temple point if you start minoxidil in conjunction with finasteride

keto found in nizoral is as you know and anti-androgen and may cause a shed

sheds are not necessarily a bad thing though

my personal recommendation is the big 3 for you

i think it would strengthen your hairline and almost guarantee fill in that crown

good luck with you treatments

I agree with BodyDysmorphic. Your hairline reminds me of mine. The rest of the hair looks really good, though! If you want to get the hairline back then rogaine is the answer. If you want to regrow a bit but maintain most (if not all0 of what you have now then just take finasteride and use nizoral.

Re: Deathcab's Story (27/Receding Hairline/2%nizoral/Nioxin)

Thanks guys for getting back to me so quickly. I guess my questions are:
-If I take minoxidil, do I just apply it to temples and not the whole head? (I know, I know. Im new)
-Should I still continue with nizoral even though I still shed when I use it?
-How long can I take finasteride? Until it stops working?

Thanks again...

Re: Deathcab's Story (27/Receding Hairline/2%nizoral/Nioxin)

apply minoxidil anywhere it is thinning/miniaturizing
twice daily for optimum results

i would make sure to get the (whole hairline) this includes the temple points, round the temples, and hairline

don't forget a little on the crown

i like using foam during day and liquid at night

the foam doesn't make your hair look wet like the liquid does
the liquid is wayyy cheap

keep up with the nizoral 2-3 times per week

Many people maintain with finasteride for over 10 years!

others say the effects cap off at around 2 years (optimum results) and then slowly decline after that

even if the effects slowly decline you will still be better than if you would have never used it

but if you use finasteride you will have to continue using it for life or else your maintained hair while on it could miniaturize rapidly before your eyes

good luck with your treatments

Ya, Ill probably start the big 3 soon. When you say "add a little to the crown" do you mean to rub the minoxidil in and cover the very top of the head? How much of the top and how much minoxidil? I just dont want to start shedding where Im not thinning.

Ha ha thanks for the detailed info. I googled "crown" and could not find where exactly that is on my head. For finasteride. pills would you recommend proscar or propecia?

propecia and proscar are the same drug. proscar comes in a 5 mg tablet and you will need to split it, but it is more cost effective.

also, i dont even think you need to put any rogaine on your crown. i think the propecia itself can fill that in quite well. but that's just me.

I was kinda thinking that too. I would rather wait and see what the finasteride. does before I start the messy topical stuff. Ya, I heard Proscar is way cheaper, so Ill go that way. Im going to try and order it online. If you know of a pharmacy link, dont be shy and send it my way.. :)

Re: Deathcab's Story (27/Receding Hairline/2%nizoral/Nioxin)

if youre buying it online then just get fincar. it's like 60 dollars for 60 dollars for 240 days of medication. it's the exact same thing as proscar but just made in India. It's manufactured by a company called Cipla and is VERY reputable. I'd say 50% or more of the members here use a form of Fincar or Finpecia due to the cost effectiveness. Fraction of the cost, all of the results. Then again, some people worry about legitimacy but I don't think anyone who has gotten them has complained. I've been using them for 2 years and have seen a definite improvement.

Re: Deathcab's Story (27/Receding Hairline/2%nizoral/Nioxin)

thats a tough question because their is no guarantee that the minoxidil will work for the RE GROWING hair in the temple region but minoxidil can enlarge miniaturized follicles that haven't turned tooo vellus on the hairline and temple line

it all really depends on you really

how bad in your opinion is your loss?

can you live with it?

i use minoxidil and my hair loss is not bad i just want to secure my current hair

if you can live with what your hair looks like now i would probably wait to add minoxidil after 1 year on finasteride

since deathcab is heading toward thinning crown and NW2- NW3 region i think he would benefit best by starting and using the big 3 for primary maintenance and a good chance of re growth

did this answer your question ?

Re: Deathcab's Story (27/Receding Hairline/2%nizoral/Nioxin)

Ok, so Im thinking of dropping NIOXIN HAIR SYSTEM and instead of 2% nizoral, Im thinking of going back to 1% nizoral, which is what I started with in the beginning. I had a really good response with the 1%, but since I started the 2% I shedded more and seemed to lose some ground in the temple region.

Also, anyone know if I can get proscar via internet or is it only prescription?

Take care guys,
Deathcab

Yes, they are legitimate. Someone will undoubtably follow this post with a claim that they could be fake. And they could be. Mine aren't (have hair now where there wasn't before), and I haven't heard of anyone buying from inhousepharmacy who recieved fakes.

alot of people use this website

here its a repeat

Well, this might sound like a funny question but is Rogaine Foam suppose to dry so quickly? I applied it and it immediately dried up and disappeared. Hopefully its soaking in enough. But of course 3 hrs later I had to run out into the rain and all that minoxidil got into my mouth and stung the face. Theres always something, isnt there....

that why alot of people like it (including myself)

Ya, I like it too. But it does seem that the liquid covers more evenly. So I started to shed instantly after my second application of minoxidil. Its starting to work, yes! But is the strong chemical smell always going to be that bad? It seems that the foam has a strong smell, but not so much with the liquid.

I was in Wal-Mart the other day and I swear that others can smell the rogaine. Oh well...
