I went to the Dermotolohist yesterday and asked him about my hair. He said, "Your temples are going back but nothing abnormal. If you want to hold it and keep your hairline I can prescribe Propecia. If it bothers you no harm." I said, "I am concerned about the side effects. Especially the permanent possibility." He laughed and said "Let me guess l, online." I said "yes". He says "let me put this in perspective. 1-3% will experience side effect and 1% of those 1-3% may experience permanent effects. We are talking 1 out of 10000 and we don't know how psychological these things are." He saw I was still weary. He goes "okay let me read off the side effects and you tell me if you feel Propecia is wrong for you" He grabs a pill bottle. Start reading. "Side effects include, redness, swelling, rash, vomiting, diaherria, stomach bleeding, severe liver damage, etc... Do you want to try this." I said, no not at all. "He said this is a CVS Ibprofen bottle. You have taken Ibprofen before?" I said, "yes". He said do not let some horro stories stear you away from a really good treatment."

I thought I would share that because I feel my Derm put things in perspective really well.

I forgot to add that he explained that his friend is a Urologist and between the both of them 20 years prescribing Propecia and his friend 25 years for Proscar neither one of them have run into anything close to those horror stories.

most derm know nothing about basic hormonal medication .
We are not talking about liver damage , but more the fact that you will inhibit 70 % of your DHT . On the short term you will have no sides , but after some times oestrogen will raise . AND maybe you will be lucky and experiment no sides . But most men will experiment sides . You just have to quit propecia after being on it for several years to feel the difference .

I dont think he is wrong. I saw a derm maybe 6 or 7 years ago who said it was a very safe drug and wrote me a script even though my hair loss back then was very minor.
He is right the chances of major problems are very very tiny. Assuming they exist at all.

Joe Tillman made a video of a similar thing where he read the side effects and made you believe it was Propecia and then told you it was an aspirin bottle.

My derm said something similar when I went back to him after experiencing sides one month after starting finasteride.

Here I am 8 months after stopping finasteride and things downstairs are still not the same.

I know it is nice to hear that the chances of (permanent) side effects are small but never forget that finasteride is not just an aspirine...

Joe Tillman is a Pharma schill. And claims he's spoken to tens of thousands of patients. On average how many patients do clinics get in a year? I highly doubt that much...

His video was nothing more than a propecia sales advertisement. He always says brand name works better than generic. Its the same f*****g molecule. And aspirin isn't a hormonal medication that you take every single day of your life.

Permanent side effects are not as rare as you think.

Just because the drug did not work out for you does not give you the right to bash Joe Tillman and make accusations that are not backed up by facts and evidence. I am sure clinics have more consultations than you think. Not all people who go for a consultation get a transplant. Frankly, I am getting sick of people like you coming on this forum making all kinds of predictions for people they know nothing about.

Why don't you just fly up to Merck headquarters and tell them to stop making finasteride. You would be more disappointing and devastating to millions of balding men than the drug itself. You still have not recovered mentally from your suicidal tendencies. You are on a suicide mission to sabotage all the newbies on this forum who are here for positive advice. I hope the admin has their eye on you. You bring this forum down with your accusations.

For the record, I am not pro drug. However, if a drug improves the mental quality of life of someone and the patient does not suffer any side effects, I am all for it. You would be promoting the drug if you had no side effects so stop the accusations please. Your bitterness toward a drug that has helped more people than caused harm belongs on those forums where everyone has the same agenda. That is NOT THIS forum as long as I have been posting.

The funny thing is that the anti propecia guys are always the first to recommend experimental/unproven/untested treatments as safe alternatives. They won't dare touch propecia but will tear their scalps open with a dermaroller to increase the absorption of chemicals they found from some random online retailer. Ridiculous.

This drug can DESTROY the mental quality of your life as well.

It's Russian Roulette.

I was suicidal about hair loss, but now I have bigger fish to fry now that I've been basically crippled the last 3 months. If you take the chance and this drug backfires on you hair loss won't matter.

Hoping I regain sexual function and proper brain function.

Nobody wants to go bald but to disregard actual suffering with a wrecked endocrine system.

I'm glad the drug is working for you and I hope you don't suffer side effects.

But don't sh*t on the people suffering with sides.

I have a much bigger problem than hair loss now.

You bet your *** if i didn't have side effects I would be praising the drug.

Most guys complain about Finasteride but change their story once they hit Norwood 3/4 and can't even get a landwhale to suck them off.

About a month or so.

Now I have no doubt this drug can work and work great for prople.

But if you experience sides as I did you'd wish you were bald. That's how bad they have been. Mental neurological sides.

Bobster, I don't have a problem if you want to share your bad experience but you accused Joe Tillman of something that is not true. I think he deserves an apology. He reads this forum when his name is involved.

And accusing me of "shitting on the people suffering from sides" is another false statement. I don't doubt you had sides. I have never bashed anyone for stopping the medication due to sides. I would do it myself. Its like you are hiding in the bushes waiting for the next poster to come on who is thinking about taking Propecia and there you are to tell him don't. If you see someone who is in a similar situation to yourself, then it would be wise for you to post about your experience and give them advice. You go after people who never even started treatment.

One difference here though is do you take ibprofen everyday for 20 years? If you did you might have a higher chance of running into some of those sides. So propecia is a very long term thing which does increase the chances because 5 years later they could show up. No guarantees.
You pop an advil once every few months is a lot different
