I went to the Dermotolohist yesterday and asked him about my hair. He said, "Your temples are going back but nothing abnormal. If you want to hold it and keep your hairline I can prescribe Propecia. If it bothers you no harm." I said, "I am concerned about the side effects. Especially the permanent possibility." He laughed and said "Let me guess l, online." I said "yes". He says "let me put this in perspective. 1-3% will experience side effect and 1% of those 1-3% may experience permanent effects. We are talking 1 out of 10000 and we don't know how psychological these things are." He saw I was still weary. He goes "okay let me read off the side effects and you tell me if you feel Propecia is wrong for you" He grabs a pill bottle. Start reading. "Side effects include, redness, swelling, rash, vomiting, diaherria, stomach bleeding, severe liver damage, etc... Do you want to try this." I said, no not at all. "He said this is a CVS Ibprofen bottle. You have taken Ibprofen before?" I said, "yes". He said do not let some horro stories stear you away from a really good treatment."
I thought I would share that because I feel my Derm put things in perspective really well.
I forgot to add that he explained that his friend is a Urologist and between the both of them 20 years prescribing Propecia and his friend 25 years for Proscar neither one of them have run into anything close to those horror stories.
