it is very good way to determine your actual looks. People are honest when they can rate others anonymously.

next time you put a picture on hotornot taug , let it run for awhile and then look at the spread of the votes. if the site is honest as you say, the graph of votes would look like a peak, with one number getting most of the votes then the ones on either side getting a little less etc. that would be normal.

however that is not what happens. the voting spread on mine was majority 9, next highest frequency vote after that was 1. that is pretty much proof of deliberate downvoting.

i love the site though, i have to listen to a lot of audio in my work and the best way to stop my mind wandering is to click through hotornot as i listen. keeps me on track without overly distracting me.

It is nothing like that unless you are female. Even hot guys get a random graph which the computer makes sence of. If you are less than an 8, your graph has more 1's and 2's than the rest combined. LOTS of voters lie on there. The computer keeps track of people's range. If they only vote 1-5, it makes the 5 a 9 and normalizes everything. If they disagree with the average too much, it shows them the same picture again 10 pics later to see if they give the same vote or made it up and can't remember the last vote. If it catches a lie, it does not count any of that person's votes. Unfortunately, most of the voters for men are men, and they can't judge or are too jelous to judge right. Women usually get scores that match my vote, though if they take off their clothes or don't wear make up, their score can be off by 2 points. So if the women are not reliably judged, you can't count on male pics either.

a woman with a score of 9.5 will have a peak around 10, and the bell curve reaches 2/3 max at 7 and 10% around 5, with just a small number of votes below 5.

look at your pic to make sure your expression/pic quality/stuff in back ground is not making people upset.

Also, DO NOT post a profile in meet me. The rate me section has a link to that profile, and people will vote based on what is in your meetme. Shortly after a woman got upset at me in the meetme section, I got 5 more 1's, which dropped my rating half a point.

Do copy and paste other people's rate me pics and see their bell curve. When you see how jacked up their "curve" is, you won't feel as bad about yours. Do men and women. You also won't trust your score as much. I watched my score oscillate between 6.2 and 7.6 many times for weeks. Not reliable.

hotornot is very accurate if you are over an 8.5. If you are below that, then you could easily be off by 2 points. And picture quality matters a lot. People will down rate you just because your pic is small or blurry or in bad lighting or you are making a gasta sign or look too snooty.

either way judging your own personal appearance on a website seems a little odd to me. girls like confidence, and if you have to look to a website based around anonymously voting on one single image of a person to seek some sort of validation about your appearance then the game is probably already lost.

far better to get advice from female friends about how to make yourself look better than to look at a site like hotornot. one is constructive, the other isnt. if you dont have female friends..... get some. ie/ talk to a girl without having the ulterior motive of banging her.
