Is it possible that Dutasteride and Finasteride can cause contribute to miniaturization?

asking because since I’ve committed to more aggressive AA use my hair has thinned rapidly. I noticed this in October when I tried a month of Propecia (Quit sides) and now again as I removed HCG in February.

Now using 1% topical Finasteride 5 days a week. Topcial Dutasteride 2-3 times per week. Not a change in shedding as the shedding never slowed or stopped.

Since october 2018 or thereabouts, for the majority of the time i was on 10mg, but have went as high as 20mg, currently on 5mg.

Did your hair grow. Is it more effective than topical minoxidil?

Does anyone think taking Dutasteride by pill could save my hair? I am wondering if I need to go that route with something for the excess testosterone. I’m a about a week into topical Dutasteride increased shed and itch. Feels like my testosterone is increasing. Just had labs pulled.

For real. What can I expect with Dutasteride, can I save my forelock? Up close there is a full diffuse layer of very small hairs from my once solid density. If I’m still losing long and medium length hairs is there hope that they can come back to around that length while on these meds?

It’s like a strip is burning right down the center of my hair, 1 inch part.

What sides did you have and how long it took to get rid of them once you quit?

The ball pain and swelling were the most obvious, lasted about a week after stopping Propecia. The depression and mood swings were also rather obvious. Semen became water (which is an issue as fertility is a priority) I did freeze 9 vials before starting topical Finasteride. Didn’t get ED but erections didn’t feel right, soft felt cold all the time.

I did jump on low dose HCG which I think helped even things out.

DHT serum never changed. I have been on here sort of in denial sort of still hoping it was something else not as permanent but it’s clear age and genes, ignited probably by thyroid are doing damage. Beard has also thinned.

thing is anecdotally my hair gets much worse with no HCG and heavy AA’s I’ve been daily topical Finasteride 1%, Propecia EOD and topcial Dutasteride 2-3 times a week... still massive sheds.

I want to just to stabilize, get a normal hair cut, and keep a moderate baseline for 10-15 years.

anyway appreciate the advice, I’ve be luck have a good hairline and just trying to slow the thinning.

It is almost exactly three years since this thread was started, and you have not gone bald. If you are already on oral minoxidil then adding Rogaine will do nothing since they are the same drug. You also can't be having 500 hair sheds every morning, you would be bald already.

A number of years ago there was someone here who was training to work in the pharmaceutical business and knew everything about drugs. But he didn't want to take finasteride. No, there are other options he claimed. He cited studies for this other drug, and studies for why this other product would work. We tried telling him how studies aren't proof since they aren't scientific unless done as blind studies, but no. After a couple of years he eventually came to the conclusion others had told him, he lost more hair and ended up taking finasteride. The big scare with sides he was worried about didn't happen, and after a few more posts he disappeared forever.

The point is he lost more hair over the worry of sides, and ended up taking the drug in the end. So anyone in the same boat has to ask them-self, will I take it as a last resort? If the answer is yes, then do it now and don't wait. One extra year of hair loss is a lot, I know because I wish I had started finasteride 5 years before I did. It would have saved me over $20 thousand and a lot of grief. I guess everybody has to make the same mistake.

bluecyclone my prediction is you will eventually be on oral finasteride someday, after you have lost a lot more hair and have figured out what that guy did. But you will also be doing a hair transplant and wishing you had started it years earlier. Welcome to the club.

I am willing to power through on oral Finasteride my concern is that Indint seem to have responded at all to topical. Granted mixed views on topical efficacy but at 1% and 6-8ml daily for two years I would expect to see some benefit.

I will manage the sides, which are real, but pointless if I’m not responding... I still have doctors telling me there is no to minor AA...

Maldonado I get labs monthly $$$ testosterone stays in 600-800 but DHT has always stayed low w/w/o Propecia. I think I get sides as this drops be out of even base ranges.

You are correct but it can happen. Just like it can happen to a 20 year old NW0 losing the same amount of hair on the same treatment. Genetics can be difficult to alter. If you plan on killing yourself if it gets bad, I would reconsider having a child. I don't think that would be fair to your child. After reading your latest posts, you seriously need mental help at this point. You obviously are a poor responder to your treatments. It happens to a small percent but it does happen. I am still surprised you have not tried Proxiphen.

I think another thing happening is your hair is transitioning to gray. That will make it look less dense than jet black hair. There is no doubt your hair is transitioning into a middle aged man's hair which is totally normal for your age group. It happens to all of us. Some exceptions do exist but you were not one of them. I think @Northface32 will be one of those unicorns. Ronald Reagan was one of those unicorns.

That is not going to bring back your hair. Just ride thru the sheds. You hair just does not seem as jet black as it used to be so I thought I saw some grays coming in. I guess I was wrong. Consider yourself lucky that you have a full head of no gray hairs at your age. Not very common unless you are hispanic or black or Native American.
